Valentine's Day is just around the corner, when Lovers everywhere go searching for that perfect romantic card to declare their heart's desire..
A satirical poetic tribute from Songbird B..A Valentine Giggle..

Recycled Romance..A Valentine Giggle..

'You know next month it's Valentine,'
I said to that old man of mine..
'I hope you won't forget my card..
despite Recession biting hard'

He gave to me a long pained look,
raising his head out of his book,
'My love, how can you think me tight?
You are my constant sweet delight..'
'I wouldn't dare miss out that date..
'for the tongue lashing that I would take..
Of course you are my wife and lover..
(as if I could afford to keep another)'..

Later....

Later my old man passed me by..
I saw a gleam within his eye..
And wondered what plans he was brewing..
what mischief he had thought of doing..
On Feb 14th, there it was sat,
a card from him upon the mat..
Yet it had a strange familiar feel,
and in an envelope that fit it ill..

My Valentine..

A Valentine, was indeed within,
from my old man 'twas signed by him,
But recognition soon came clear..
It was the one he gave last year!
The cheapskate sod, he was so tight..
I glared at him, prepared to fight..
'I can't believe you would not buy,
a brand new card. Pray tell me why?'

And His Excuse...

He held up a hand, 'Love, don't you see,
I am saving the Earth, and several trees..'

Up to my side, with a grin, he sidled..
'And it's environmental to recycle!'
Well what could I say, I had to giggle,
from that corner, he'd so craftily wriggled.
With a wink, I murmured 'I'm off to bed,
And you dear Valentine, are sleeping in the shed!'

And who said Romance was dead...?

Very cute...my husband and I have often gone to the store together we look over the cards and show the other ones we like and then put them back...no purchase necessary :)) we've done it for decades - green before the term was big!

Hi dear friend Bev,
(Please don't mind, you're still my dearest SongBard!)

Certainly I never said that Romance was dead...!

How can anyone say that when your poems "declare their heart's desire..." this Valentine's day!
