"He's going to revive them with that weapon of his. It's a bit like the one you had, remember? We need to go and look for that as well, as it will most certainly come in handy while we're on this red planet."

Red Planet, Part Eight

Graham rushed forwards and pushed Derek aside. The two crashed to the ground and barely missed the rays. Just as they shuffled to their feet, they both noticed that Rhandor wasn't there.
"Who, or should I ask, what was that thing, Derek?"
Derek brushed his spacesuit and looked at Graham, then smiled and held his shoulders.
"Graham, I owe you my life. Thanks very much."
"That's all very well, don't mention it, Derek, but I'm still waiting for an explanation. And please tell me everything you know, including what happened during my blackout."
And so, Derek and Graham sat down on some rocks and everything was out in the open. And then, Graham stood up.
"What's the matter?" Asked Derek.
"I never thought I'd be saying this to you, Derek, but from this point onwards, I'm in charge. Now, it's your turn, to just listen without questioning me."
Derek seemed amused and shrugged.
"It's okay with me, Captain. So what do we do now?" Graham looked back and said.
"We're going back, not forwards. I believe that Rhandor was tricking you into getting his body back. Now, if I'm right, he may be out there looking for remaining survivors of his race."
"Go on." Said Derek, getting interested.
"He's going to revive them with that weapon of his. It's a bit like the one you had, remember? We need to go and look for that as well, as it will most certainly come in handy while we're on this red planet."
"When you say, we're going back, where to?"
Graham looked back again and said,
"We're going to go back to what's left of our spacecraft and I'm going to try and repair it."
"Graham, I don't mean to discourage you, but you're never ever going to get it to work."
Graham stared hard at him, and replied,
"Well, what have we got to lose, Derek?"
And so, the two of them began making their way back, using only their instincts. Everywhere around them were just craters and rocks, as on the moon. The gravitational pull helped them move a lot faster and soon, they were hopping along and enjoying it.
Meanwhile, elsewhere, Rhandor had reached another yellow crater. He pointed his device at it and the same thing happened. A body began to rise from the yellow molten lava and fell sideways onto the ground. Rhandor's eyes gleamed with joy and he stood back and then aimed the device at it and fired. The rays penetrated through the lava and a blue glow formed, showing that the activation process had started. Now there were two aliens on the red planet.
