Red Planet, Part Four

"But we don't really need it, do we, Derek?"
"Well, it's a yes and a know, if that makes any sense. The only difference is that now, it is purely guess work. We'll be walking into the unknown."
"Oh yes, you were mentioning that the device did other things."
"Yes. It's a radar, a telescope and even a small weapon that lets off lethal radiation." Said Derek, with a smile on his face.
"Well, I'll definitely keep my eyes out for it, Derek."
"Thanks, Graham. But for now, I think we need to get a move on."
As the two space explorers walked, the light got dimmer. In a matter of a few hours it would be pitch black. The planet had two suns and two moons.
"Derek, let's stop here. I'm thirsty."
Derek stopped and gave a wry smile, after which he noticed something.
"Graham; what's that red mark on your throat?"
"What mark, Derek?"
Derek moved closer and inspected it carefully.
"How long have you had it, Graham?"
"Hard to say, really."
Just then, it started to glow very brightly
