Birds are very protective of their breeding areas in the early spring, even to the point of attacking their own reflection in a window.

Reflections (Limerick)

A robin sees it's reflection,
But it's brain needs some correction.
He's not aware,
The window is there,
Until he makes the connection.

Crazy Robin in the Early Spring

A robin that claimed his territory outside a bay window, defends that territory against his own image in the window, each morning. His frontal attack against the window gives him the impression that he's met his foe. While he retreats, he sees his opponent retreating as well. This happens several times a day. This poor bird is going to break the window or his neck before he realizes his attacks are worthless. This photograph was taken in Western New York on a frosty April morning.

I think that explains the red cardinal that used to attack a window in a house we once lived in.

They sometimes eat too many fermented berries, then lose the tad of 'judgement' they have and crash into windows.... feathered suicides ...

So clever, to tuen such an incident into something very readable and enjoyable - well, not that I enjoy thr thought of a robin trying to harm itself.

Thanks Don, for the humorous limerick. I believe collectivley we are not different as we attack our own without pausing to see reason! siva
