It is possible to understand the anxiety of those who are attempting to unravel Sai Baba's remarkable accomplishments. As one experienced investigator put it;"if Sai Baba is indeed able to transform matter, then the whole basis of Western science is nonsense."...

"Different Kinds Of Fruit Growing On The Same Tree"

Sai Baba, was he really the revered worker of miracles, a guru, or was he an expert magician that had raised the technique of suggestion and slight of hand, to greater heights? Was it slight of hand, that enabled him to produce golden rings and coins out of thin air, even change rock into sweets and flowers into jewels? With the aid of vibbuti (sacred ash) which seemed to appear out of nowhere, he healed the sick. Some witnesses even claimed that he had brought the dead back to life.

Tens of thousands of his followers and devotees from around the world had streamed in to India as news of his death reached them from all over the globe. Many of them bearing testimony of the "miracles" that he had performed, in close proximity and in full view of many people. There were many sceptical journalists and scientists who had observed him from close by, and were unable to find any explanation for his feats.

Sai Baba claimed that the miracles he performed in front of large audiences, were mere "tinsel", when compared with his religious messages. In spite of this, skeptics never found any explanation for his feats.

He often randomly asked people what they desired, and would pluck the object from the air. There were many accounts, too, where Sai Baba would ask a number of people in a crowd, to name their favorite fruit, then pointing to one single tree, they would find all the different kinds of fruit growing on the same tree.

There are many testimonies of acts of healing, even surgery, performed by Sai Baba, throughout India as well as other parts. One such account, was of a man that was suffering with stomach cancer, who had been brought to him. Sai Baba put this man into a very deep trance and brushed his forehead with vibbuti, next, he plucked a scalpel from the air, removed the growth and healed the gaping wound instantly by pushing the two pieces of skin together between his two fingers.

Another such case involved a government worker, Khare, of Dehra Dun India in November of 1971. Kahre who had gone completely blind in both eyes. Kahre's daughter was studying at the Sai Baba center at Whitefield, near Bangalore. One day in May 1972, she spoke to the guru about her father's blindness. He told her not to worry and plucked some vibbuti from the air and gave it to her, telling her to send it to her father.

Kahre received the package and believed that it would be the cure for his blindness. Every day, he rubbed a little bit of the sacred ash into his eyes until a week later, his vision had returned to him. The doctors who had declared him permanently blind a short while earlier, examined his eyes again and were amazed, as Kahre was completely cured!

Perhaps the most astonishing display of Sai Baba's powers, was in 1953, when a 60 year old man by the name of Radhakrishna, came to the master to ask for something to relieve his painful stomach ulcers. Sai Baba laughed and ignored him. In spite of the attention of several doctors, Radhakrishna went into a deep coma.

Three days later Radhakrishna's body had turned blue and stiff; it was ice cold, shrunken and starting to decompose. Then Sai Baba went into the room and asked to be left alone with Radhakrishna. Minutes later, relatives saw Radhakrishna walk out, flushed with life, his ulcers had completely disappeared.

One of the many skeptics was an Australian journalist by the name of Howard Murphet, set out to expose Sai Baba as a fraud; Murphet, however became instantly convinced
of his power, when with the wave of his hand, Sai Baba produced a gold ring and gave it to him. Murphet, wears the ring, and is a believer to this day.

"I Have come To Tell You Of This Unitary Faith."

One evening, Sai Baba asked Murphet to tell him the year of his birth, and said that he would produce an American coin minted in that year. He waved his empty hand around in front of Murphet's face. When Sai Baba dropped the coin into Murphet's hand, it felt heavy and looked shiny and golden. On closer examination, he found that indeed, it was a genuine minted American $10 coin with the year of his birth stamped beneath a profile head of the Statue of Liberty.

During the past sixty something years, while Sai Baba had been demonstrating his so called, miraculous power, no one had ever found conclusive evidence of any trickery . Investigators have inspected Sai Baba's safron robes that are his only form of clothing but have discovered no secret or hidden pockets, linings and other hiding places.

Is Sai Baba A Threat To Science?

Sai Baba refused to ever submit to rigorous scientific testing, insisting that he will only use his powers for religious purposes such as inspiring faith or helplng others in need.
"No one one could ever understand his mystery".

But it is possible also, to understand the anxiety of those who were until recently still attempting to unravel Sai Baba's remarkable accomplishments.
"No one one could ever understand the mystery surrounding this enigmatic figure".

quote:
I have come to light the lamp of Love in your hearts, to see that it shines day by day with added luster. I have not come on behalf of any exclusive religion. I have not come on a mission of publicity for a sect or creed or cause, nor have I come to collect followers for a doctrine. I have no plan to attract disciples or devotees into my fold or any fold. I have come to tell you of this unitary faith, this spiritual principle, this path of Love, this virtue of Love, this duty of Love, this obligation of Love. 4 July 1968, Baba

Howard Murphet's book was what first introduced me to the life, message and works of Sathya Sai Baba. I am not a devotee of his. I love him. I respect him as the founding brain behind the largest and the greatest free hospital in Asia. At least that is an uncommon achievement. Doing to people what they most desire for is rightly termed 'benevolence' and benediction. Understanding persons do not use the word 'miracle' in their place. Since logical analysis evolved millenniums ago, philosophers walking before science leading it, have been explaining the dominance of mind over matter and illustrating mind's domination through manifestations. Science can analyze matter to particles and see the rapid motion of particles in their orbits. But what is beyond this supercharged motion escapes them because it is not something to be seen. It is to be heard, which is sound. Every philosopher even with a puny little knowledge knows that if nature, human body and mind could be brought to this common medium of sound, senses such as sight, listening, smell, touch and feel and many more can be gained or released. Just as a blind will deny the existence of sight, those with just five senses allowed to their limited conscience and development will laugh at the mention of a sixth or a seventh.

What an interesting comment you write PSRemesh. I too share your views about the man, miracle worker or not. Your discussion about matter in an atomic or even a sub-atomic state explains my point. Even if sound is the catalyst, I still ask, why do these objects of matter behave or respond this way? It's the one thing a "Darwinian" cannot explain, WHY!. Thank you for your comments.

Thank you for this fascinating insight into this very interesting man. I knew of him before this but could never make up my mind who or what he was. May his soul find perfect peace.
