Second Thoughts

Sometimes it is best to leave when danger looms, instead of facing it. Homes can be replaced when destroyed, but the loss of lives destroys families, and can never be replaced.

Second Thoughts

Bobby regretted not leaving with the other farmers when they pleaded with him to come with them. He thought they were worrying unnecessarily about the river becoming dangerous. It had never flooded before, so there was no cause for evacuation.

He could still hear their mocking laughter when they were told no river was going to get the upper hand, and force him to leave his home. Well, he sure as hell was not having any fun now!

Bobby lost all hope of being rescued, after he heard the loud vibrating noises the bridge made, when it collapsed hitting the water. It was a frightening ordeal. The river had risen more in the day and flooded the small farm he lived on. The hen house had been swept away in the heavy current of water. All the crops he was about to reap were now ruined.

His wife, Lucy, was scared and started crying when water seeped its way in, from under the door. Chappy, his loyal dog, barked to the eerie sounds of the whistling wind. Bobby hugged Lucy tightly as they climbed the stairs to the attic, with Chappy at his heels. It was going to be a rough, sleepless night for them. All they could do was pray for a miracle.
