Often it is preached, at least in the fiction writing world, that it is far better to show than to tell. Hmmm, that really doesn't seem to work in real life, does it? Or some guys are just too dumb to notice... things...

Red Rose: Symbol of Love

They say a red rose is a symbol of love.
I stopped from walking. He, too, stopped.
“What you lookin’ at?” he asked me.
“Nothing,” I lied.
His eyes ran over the stream, exploring. Then, he said, “I really wan’ her to be my date for the dance. You think she’ll say yes?”
Why do boys always look only for beauty in girls?!
“You think –”
“She might!” I snapped. I took a deep breath and walked down to the stream’s edge. I bended down and picked up the only rose in the place. Redder than red rose. I walked up back to the path and handed it to him, smiling.
“Brilliant!” he cried. “Thanks a lot! Why didn’t I think of it earlier! Symbol of love! Of course! She’ll know how I feel ‘bout her!”
I walked back down to the stream and poured my tears into it.
