Sometimes I Forget

Some poems written around May of this year covering the decision to leave someone toxic to me and the moment I realized I wanted to, and a few poems covering my lingering feelings.

The Host

I went to my notebook
to write some lines about you
(And I- you, inhale
through your nose)
And oh I had found
that already- I had moved on
And babe was so gone

Fine fingertips tear
on the fringes of my mind
tissue thin edges
that burn
like fire
a quick touch-
a withdrawal
and quickly-
and again

I Saw You Today

You should've been marble
gleaming, your cheeks sculpted
out of fiery passivity

only worn on by human touch

your eyes are hollow white

At the top of the city
Where you see the night die
and the dawn
born- reborn
that's what it feels like to be
on top of the world
Where no one sees your breath catch
or stop-
where you can't feel remorse

Drugs, Fire, Healing, Love, Mistakes, Moving On, Sex, Understanding
