The sun came out today, and the wind has dropped. Do we dare to hope that Spring has come? Read on to find out more

Springing into Action

This time last week, like many other people, I was huddled into my thickest winter coat, wearing gloves and a hat, and hoping when I did venture out, that my car would stay safely on the road. I have been living in Herne Bay for 18 years now, but never has there been such deep snow, or such hazardous side roads. The gritters did their job, and all the main roads were safe to use, but as we live on a hill with a sloping drive, we found we had to leave the car out on the road, as it was well nigh impossible to get it out of the drive.

Like everyone I met, I was moaning about what a long winter it had been, it was almost April, soon the hour would change, and the lighter evenings would arrive, and here we all were, freezing to death! We were all badly in need of some sun, and maybe Mother nature was listening, as yesterday, the sun peeped out cautiously, trying to decide if it should give us all a treat and shine, but the cold north wind had other ideas, it blew an arctic blast, which still made it a very unattractive proposition, to want to spend much time out in it.

But Today

When I woke up this morning, the sun was streaming through the window, and I could not wait to open the curtains. When I was dressed, I cautiously opened the front door, and although there was still an early morning chill, the arctic wind had subsided. This decided me, I would go for a walk.

When I walked round to our local bay, it was a joy to see the sea blue and calm, as last week it looked decidedly grey and angry at times. I could even hear the birds singing in the trees, and the freshness of a very gentle breeze was so pleasant. Even our car park at the top of the cliffs was filling up with dog owners out to exercise their pets, and everyone I met had a smile on their face, and why not, at last the sun was shining.

On my way Back

As I walked through Bishopstone Glen, I could see that some blossoms have dared to break through, and I could even see the green shoots of the golden daffodils, yet to reveal themselves.

Spring has always been my favourite season, everything always looks so fresh and clean, our glen will soon have a carpet of daffodils, followed by bluebells tulips, more blossoms will bloom in shades of pink the trees will regain their branches and leaves, and there will be baby lambs playing in the fields.

All this inspires me to do Spring cleaning, make everything shine, even get out in the garden and put it back into order again. The windows need cleaning until they sparkle, and we can turn off the central heating and save some money.

Then we have summer to look forward to, and being an eternal optimist, I believe it will be a good one, it usually is, in this part of England, we get the sunshine, and somehow miss the rain, because it is the South East corner. I am now hoping this nice weather will continue, so everyone can enjoy a dry and sunny Easter break.
