Starting Over

Often times dreams get sidetracked and it is difficult to get them back on the right track again. With positive thinking, hard work and belief in yourself things can turn around for the better.

Starting Over

For three years I spent time and money working with a particular publishing company of which I thought was a great publishing company. I was so involved in what they wanted me to do and try to get the money saved up to send to this for this and that, I did not realize what was right in front of my face.
I was told that if I sent them money they could send my book to other countries, if I sent money they would keep a website up for me, I spent more money then I received from any sales of my new children's book. They also wanted me to give them money for me to do my own marketing.
After a considerable amount of time I started asking myself one important question such as, "Why am I paying them and I am doing all the work?" I was even asked to give money to an online seminar of information that I could find online.
I started to read reviews from other authors about this publishing company and there was nothing good written about them from any of the previous authors. I was told to start up an ebook because it would bring in more money to me. I did this and then was told that any ebook sales would not count towards my royalty check of which I only received one three years ago.
I have started to revise my stories, but right now I am very distrustful of any publishing company. They all seem to want the money, but none of them seem to want to do the work for the author to get the book on the market. If the author such as myself or others are going to do all of the work why not publish the book on their own?
I have learned so much by going through this experience and as time marches on I will decide which path is the right on for me to go on. This is just a word of warning to all authors out there. Check out the publishing company you are thinking of going with. Read all reviews and if you do have to pay any money to them, make sure they know what you expect from the publishing company and that they will not get another dime from you while they are working for you.
Our bosses pay us to do a certain type of job, is it not the same when we pay the publishing company that we expect them to do certain jobs for us? I think the publishing companies have become so messed up and it is going to be a long time before I decide to trust any of them again.

You are welcome. When I am ready to publish again there are certain guidelines that I will enforce for myself & so should other authors.
