An ode a soldier fallen in combat. Depicts the ultimate sacrifice and the cruel twists of Fate that make the reality of war so desolate. To live by the sword is to die by the sword.

Summer In Bagdad

Summer In Bagdad

Hot desert sun, bright desert sand,
Dip on my tongue, gun in my hand.

Heat rises in ripples, with sparse steam to wave.
Heat so immense, the cacti start to cave.

A shuffle, a scatter, a shout, a shot.
Was a man with a gun, now there is not.

I tread in this pool, this pool full of red,
I came to this desert, to shoot this man dead.

I don't know his name, or why he was here.
He raised his gun, so my choice was clear.

A hot steel barrel, now pressed to my back.
Fate is now knocking, to come take me back.

A shuffle, a scatter, a shout, a shot.
Was a man with a gun,

now there is not...

I love your expressions and the way you let this out. Why not check out my story and tell me what you think. It was a 5 minutes inspiration I wrote down and I am scared it may not be as great as I thought.
