Diana thinks her husband may be having an affair, as heartbreaking as it is, she wants to find out the truth, and then decide what to do about it. Read on to find out more

Suspicion.

Diana couldn't remember when she first thought that there was something wrong in her marriage. All she knew was an uneasiness set in when George seemed so pre-occupied at work.

He had always been the first to admit he wasn't a workaholic, he never volunteered for overtime, and said his family always came first. Now that the twins had just started school, at just less than 5 years old, they were always so tired, they could just about stay awake until 7 o'clock, so when George arrived home at 6, it only allowed an hour for him to spend with them.

It was much the same in the morning, George had to catch his train to London at 7am, and the twins were in their pyjamas having breakfast when he left, so all he had time for was a quick hug, and to wish all of them a happy day.

But George was a devoted Dad, and very proud of his boys, so the weekend was precious. As a family they spent time together, he had always been hands on since they were born, nappies hadn't fazed him at all, and that phase of their lives was now long gone.

He decided to work overtime

When George announced he would be home later, as he was working, Diana took it in good spirit. As long as it didn't affect the weekend she could cope. His company was thriving, and had more work than they could get through in a day, which was good news when all the other industries were suffering. George's company supplied computer products nationwide, and the business just kept growing. This meant the office work became more demanding, and it was not possible to work from home, which of course would have solved the problem.

Diana worked too, she had managed to fit her hours around the boys, and could work from home, she had her own little office in the spare bedroom, and she spent a lot of time in there, typing up reports, and emailing them to her boss. She really couldn't see why the company wouldn't let George bring his work home, but it seemed they were always working to a deadline.

She told Maria about it.

One day she was feeling a bit low, the evenings seemed long without George, by the time he had got home, he was too tired to even eat sometimes, said he'd grabbed a sandwich at work, so she ate a lonely dinner, and the situation started getting to her.
" He's wiped out when he gets home, it's just a quick cup of something then off to bed." she explained to Maria.
Maria laughed.
" What are you saying, he's up to something, not your George, he adores you and the boys, he wouldn't stray."
" I am not saying that at all," said Diana, " You read too many women's magazines!"

But the thought had been planted there, and it just grew and grew inside her until it became like a big heavy weight , that was stifling her. She found it hard to sleep, laying beside George at night, wondering if he had been in someone else's arms before he came home to her was unbearable, and she knew that soon she would have to ask him.

She thought up a plan

In the morning she felt different, and then decided she would have a bit of time to pamper herself. After the boys went to school, she went and had her hair done, and her nails, she felt good now. There was a nice dress in the corner shop, it was red, her favourite colour, and together with some nice black boots, it would make a smart outfit.

She liked the new blonde colour her hairdresser had tried today, it made her feel much more attractive, and she realised it was some time since she had made the effort, she was always so busy with the family, that her own needs were always pushed aside.

Just on an impulse she got on the train to London, she was going to surprise George, he always went to lunch at 1pm, she could just make it, then after she would get back in time to meet the boys from school.

But she didn't get as far as the office, outside the little tea shop she saw him, her George, locked in an embrace with a woman who looked vaguely familiar. Oh My God, Maria had hit the nail on the head, she couldn't bear to see any more, so she turned right around, and hurried back to the station to get her train home.

Whatever could she do now?

After a lot of tears and soul searching, she decided to do nothing. She was not going to throw away 10 years of marriage without fighting for him. She didn't tell him she had been there, just acted normally when he came home. It was hard, but all her years in the drama society had clearly not been wasted.,

" The overtime finishes at the end of next week." George announced whilst he was sipping his cup of tea. " I am sick to death of it, night after night, can't come too soon for me."

Diana's face lit up with hope. Maybe if he was at home more they could salvage something.
" Well we have missed you." she said warmly." My she reckoned she deserved an Academy Award for this!

George noticed her new look

" Wow you are looking glamorous," said George, " I so wanted that promotion, and doing overtime was going to give me more chance, I also wanted to use the money to take you and the boys to Disney next Spring."

He had forgotten just how beautiful she was, she wasn't just the mother of his boys, she was the love of his life, but right now she looked so gorgeous, if he wasn't careful, someone else would take a fancy to her.

" Oh I just thought I would like a change, " Diana said airily, smiling at him, and wondering what he was really thinking.
" Oh I meant to say, do you remember Lydia, she was at school with us, the same age, and married to Geoff, the bloke who was always mad about racing cars.
" Yes," said Diana, of course, that had been the woman he embraced. She felt her heart lurch.
" It's terrible, he was killed driving one, went straight into the wall, I saw her today on my way to lunch, and made the mistake of asking after him, and of course that really upset her, me and my big mouth, apparently it was in the local paper".
" Oh how tragic!, But we never get time to read it." said Diana. Now she felt bad, so wrapped up in her own little world, and there were people out there dealing with their own personal tragedies.
" The funeral is next Monday, I think we should go." said George.
" Oh yes, that is the least we can do," said Diana, her black cloud had lifted, her suspicions had gone. She realised what a lucky woman she was, she still had her man, and now regretted ever doubting him.
" Then after that, I think I should book that holiday, after all we only get one life!" said George."

Diana hugged him tightly. " I am so glad I have you, promotion or not, it doesn't matter." she said, and she meant it from the bottom of her heart.

I have been there with the man having an affair and how feelings change. Not that they notice your looks, they do but it is the trick they play from within that gets to you, how they act as if nothing has happened but indeed something has happened. The change is seen from the way they look and act and greatest difference is is demeanor. As a wife, I would have confronted them face to face and then just said was passing by, guess you are busy and leave you to it. It works well as I have done it as guilt makes the story tumble out. Here is a fact, he saw her and tried to cover it by taking her along to a funeral. Its just who I am as she could get closer now....

You know how I like a ' good ' ending Carol , and I wasn't disappointed ...having said that though I also am aware that deception in real life can end in the manner that Lady A spoke of .. Trust and love are both so needed for any relationship to work ...sadly many fail now as statistics show , but I enjoyed this read .
Bless you my friend
