Please enjoy this journey into a day in the life of two flats fisherman, Tails are one of the highest priority targets of any tropical saltwater flats fishermen. It is the beginning of many challenges and adventures.

TAILS

Its tails that we search for, tails we want to see.
Up and out at sunrise, just my buddy and me.
Poling for hours, in search of our prey.
Never really getting tired, just enjoying God’s day.
Talking about nothing, the breeze in our face.
Alone on the water, on land’s the rat race.
Then like a dream shattered conscious, a tail waves in our sight.
Together like clockwork, we ready for the fight.
We approach like a tiger on our unsuspecting prey.
Poling low and quietly hoping he’ll stay.
I signal to cast now, ten o’clock, one hundred feet.
But somehow the line has tangled on the bow’s starboard cleat.
Panic passes quickly as we ready once again.
And the cast lands quietly and I encourage my friend.
One strip, two strip, three strip, smash.
And the water erupts as our fish starts to thrash.
The reel sings wildly and I frantically pole.
But we come to a halt as the bow finds a shoal.
My friend starts running but falls down face first.
The gets back up cussing expecting the worst.
But the rod bends back over, line smokes from its tip.
Like an invisible skier we watched the rooster tail rip.
In only inches of water, he seems to move forty miles an hour,
With immeasurable energy and unstoppable power.
This time, more slowly, my fiend starts to give chase,
His rod held high, determination on his face.
After a while, with the runs not so long,
The sun a little lower, the shadows getting long.
Our quarry, now beaten, lay sideways at his feet.
There’s no other feeling to make an angler complete.
With a snap of the camera, a hand shake and some smiles,
Our fine finny friend swims off in the wild.
So with the toast of a drink and the wind again in our face.
We head on home smiling, thankful for God’s grace.

Hey Guys,
Thank you for reading, sharing and following!
I am really just getting started at this, so you all are very important to me and my family.
Our life has really been changed since our accident. Thank you again!
I have a compilation of fishing related pieces in an eBook on amazon called “Fast Casts” for $2.99
It is also set uo as a “Share” file.
It was our first. I will be rereleasing a newer version as soon as I can with more pieces, on more sites and better format & editing.
I’d also love to work with artists and maybe even photographers to enhance things.
If you get it, please give a review and share.
It is a huge help to us!
And…It will help me write more!
I eventually want to provide audio files.
Thanks again!!!
Only the best,
Dan
