The Autumnal Jewel ...

We so rarely take time out to appreciate Natures splendour around us, when we are so immersed in our own woes, and yet we are surrounded by it everyday... Sometimes we just stumble into it...Every now and then we need to remove the blindfold that we so often wear.....

The Autumnal Jewel...

Here am I, walking alone...
My head so filled with thoughts...
Barely seeing where I tread,
my attention is suddenly caught...
I can hear the sound of Birdsong,
and Water as it falls...
I stand here in a woodland...
Hadn't noticed Natures call...

The Autumnal splendour all around,
quite took my breath away...
Trees in shades of orange and gold,
made me linger and want to stay...
Such beauty I had overlooked,
caught in my own small world...
I almost passed this treasure by...
This jewel, Autumn unfurled...

I followed the sound of water,
as it chuckled along it's way...
and came across a waterfall,
dipped my hand in it's dancing spray.
Sitting there, upon the bank,
surrounded by such peace..
Bird song, water, majestic colours,
my troubles I soon released...

How often do we tread a path...
And not see what is there?
Not taking time to look around,
at the beauty of Nature rare?
Lingering in that woodland,
eased my troubled mind...
I walked away, with open eyes,
no longer was I so blind...

So take some advice, as you read these lines...
Or you may be just like me...
Don't overlook this bounty fair,
that is there for all to see....
This woodland and its splendour,
may be closer than you know...
I hope that you will find yours too,
when you let all your troubles go...

Yes Songbird I agree with your sentiments my friend. We are often far too busy in our separate worlds to take a walk in the woods or a park and see what is going on. The simple things like a walk are far more pleasurable than going to a theme park or elsewhere that is so expensive. I walk in the woods is also

Thank you for the reminder. We live in such a beautiful area and wake up to views of the mountains everyday, but I'm usually so caught up in my daily schedule that I usually forget to stop and pay attention. Tomorrow I will remember...

Thank you Songbird, for this lovely poem.
This morning as I woke up I wanted to go and capture some Nature flicks before the sun rose high, but sat down to see the mails and the responses to my articles and got busy browsing as usual.

This poem has made me start out and I'm right now going to enjoy the beauty in the morning sun, its not too late.

A wonderful poem to remind and reconcile with nature.

I second the comment above, and add that you really captured the beauty of Autumn, of being among nature. A really lovely poem that makes me want to go outside :D

I can see the colors of the leaves, and autumn's crisp air as I read your poem. You are the poet laureate of wikinut, Songbird.
