The Challenge to Build the World We Desire

We know the answers for a much better world but the change has to come from us through self-realization. It is against nature’s way to treat us differently by giving us what we want on a silver platter over and above the basics. We should have the wisdom to shed some mental baggage to win the war for peace and coexistence.

We Create our Reality

Gandhi said, sort of threw down a gauntlet to the youth, “Be the change that you wish to see in the world.” Everyone has yearnings for a better world – the most obvious will be one of peace and coexistence but having the freedom to lead the lives we desire. We do not want daily tensions but a world that is too smooth sailing could well be boring too! Maybe, the heaven that many look for will still have the challenges and tasks for us to prove our mettle, friendly competition and not “fire” that justifies some killing here! My very devout friend asked me with some consternation – what will he do in heaven without the “funny” people who give him a break from his daily routine of pious life? Obviously, he takes it as no go for them as far as heaven is concerned. I assured him his God will take care of that! What a challenge then to keep it interesting like few who are into many marriages! Everything has a right price – is it not just astounding to think of the choices we have in our lives here with every day different! Let us not overlook the moments that we take for granted.

Forgetting Lessons

We have a fairly long history behind us at least to learn the basic lessons but we keep forgetting them! Each generation behaves like the chosen one with a take they can get away with those that their forefathers paid with their lives. We know what we want but will rather not let go those that brought us harm. When nature gives everything for free we have lots of time to look for trouble! We have miles and miles of land that is lying in waste but we want those that another possesses! Why not try to snatch it from them like the hyenas do from even the lions? The latter have done the hard work but hyenas look for the easy pickings despite inviting the wrath of the king of the jungle! We are not much different but there is one vital difference; we have enough for our basic needs in our own homes.

For a Better World

The way for a better world lies in seeing to it that we all have the basics to survive, but has not nature seen to it? What we try to value add are the extras that stroke our ego, to flex our muscles, score points over others, even dare to invite their wrath. Read the news headlines and you will get my drift! For me the best way is to show by example – individually, as a society, country, faith, belief etc. When one cannot live in peace and look for trouble then the cracks in our mental makeup are visible. Let our lives be an open page – nothing to hide except to cover our modesty; the other species do not even have to worry about this aspect! We have come thus far based on certain factors, so let us not forget the basics.

Unity in diversity is what makes nature around us so fascinating and self-renewing, we should emulate that principle in our daily life as we cannot go against nature’s underlying principles. Otherwise, we will self-destruct. Is it in our genes and can we do anything about it? It is better to acknowledge we are facing a problem and then overcome it with tact and intelligence.

Agenda for Survival

We are hitting at brick walls and though we know the ways to overcome it we want others to lose for us to win. That has been our mistake from time immemorial. Then we are defeated at the starting block. We expect some higher force to bail us out of self-created problems. In fact, many who have searched high and low say self-realization has to start from within. We should have the awareness to see, feel and live to realize the world we want from what looks like a dream for now. We have to develop and fulfill the ability and potential that lies dormant within us otherwise. It is our choice whether we want to live like spiritual beings that we take us to be or just like other species living by the day meeting bare necessities. Are we ready to pay the price? Of course, the rewards will be in terms of a lifestyle that we hardly know – almost akin to being in the hallowed heaven that many dream of. I can hear my inner voice prompting me – prove your worth and then the walls will dismantle automatically! It is ultimate justice that our Creator wants us to take charge to realize our true potential – to present it on a silver plate will defeat the purpose and go against the grain of the humongous creative juggernaut. Every species has to prove its worth, survive on own merits – including the “mighty” us. Let us not let our Creator down for giving us everything leaving us only to connect the dots. What we gain by own merits sustain.

Yes Madan, but many pipe dreams have been turned into reality all the time at every level. We need constant reminding like what I had said earlier - World War ll happened when it did to remind us of the consequences of our insane actions - had it been postponed till now?

Now Germany, Japan and China are into world fraternity though few want to go for World War lll ! I am reminded of a war cry recently. "We don't mind taking you on - our God will finish yours later if it comes to that"!

Thank God the majority knows better and presses on in the right direction of peace and coexistence - siva

I think insecurities and valuation system are responsible for the hyena behavior. Animals do not have monetary system nor walls to make those boundaries.

Thanks Vandana. Hyenas live by the day or meal to meal, but we have enough to meet our needs everywhere, yet we spoil for a fight all the time, needle others needlessly.

We have to let go some to have time for others that will take us to another level. Let us cease to live like a frog in the well - siva

Thanks Abdul for your support. The common citizens can vote and expect their leaders to do what hey promised. But the latter create smokescreens to maintain the status quo.

It is time to move up a notch so that we get away from those that hold us down. We should press on - siva

Your conclusion, "Every species has to prove its worth, survive on own merits – including the “mighty” us- seems a new spin on Darwin's theory.

Thanks GVR for your thoughts.

Darwin's theories of "natural selection" and "survival of the fittest" are universally applicable and accepted.

As we find ourselves at the apex of all species, we have only us as enemies and we get carried away. We should rise above those that have caused us grief, but we do not learn or remember the lessons to make progress.

It is still a "frog in the well mentality" that is weighing us down. So we should find our own destiny and decide whether we survive or perish as we near a precipice of our own making - siva

Yes Kingwell , many have been lamenting we do not learn or remember the lessons of history.

Our leaders look far and wide for trouble overlooking the fact their own houses are on fire! It is better to leave others to fix their issues themselves.

Our belief is attuned more to after life while we are at loggerheads here day in and day out. Many ardent believers cannot live in peace in their own homes.

We need a reality check and self introspection - siva

Were the world, Just and Fair - Loving and Kind ..dear Siva ..we would already be in heaven ...but alas , this is not the case as recently proven in such places as Tunisia and France ...
The majority of the people were enjoying life and not harming their neighbour ...but it only took one crazed gunman to break the ideal scenario and turn it into a blood bath of fear and misery ...all because of hatred .
Such behaviour does not come from a loving Creator or those who believe in treating their fellow man, created in His image , with love and respect .
God bless you with His peace my friend .

Thanks dear Stella, appreciate your support.

It is indeed ironic these killings are motivated by beliefs - at least that is how these fanatics justify their actions.

Some feel we cannot live in an ideal world But I have a solution that might not prove tough to implement.

There are very few who create mayhem and carnage. Isolate them, give them space; let them fight one another so that they leave the vast majority in peace! Maybe, then they will realize their folly that they can appease their Gods by killing another! siva

Sadly , dear Siva ...it is these so called Isolated ones , who , instead of fighting each other , gang together and form vast armies that terrorize and murder those of the majority who would rather live in peace .
A sad demise methinks my friend .
Many blessings to you

Thanks again dear Stella for your thoughts.

We have the few everywhere who have itch to fight another for any reason or even for no reason. Let us isolate them and send them to a common ground to fight to their heart's content. That way the vast majority will be left in peace!

They are unlikely to find common ground as they come from different background, beliefs etc. It is sort of a good riddance of the recalcitrant if they fight to death to prove whatever! siva

Thanks ~ Siva ~ for another wonderful, thought-provoking ~ and inspiring article.

These are statement from your article that I believe will help to make my day even better:
'The way for a better world lies in seeing to it that we all have the basics . . .'

'Unity in diversity is what makes nature around us so fascinating and self-renewing, we should emulate that principle in our daily life as WE CANNOT GO AGAINST NATURE'S UNDERLYING PRINCIPLES. Otherwise, WE WILL SELF DESTRUCT. '

I added the emphasis for effect.
Across the board ~ that is certainly a very relevant and far reaching idea.
'It is our choice whether we want to live like spiritual beings . . .' YES
The following paragraph constitutes an integral part of my belief system:

Galatians 6:7-10 New King James Version (NKJV)
7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. 8 For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. 9 And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. 10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.

I believe I can safely say that I agree with just about every point you are making here.
Blessings.

I have to thank you deeply for taking time and analyzing what I have written Helen. I am humbled by your generous encouragement.

The technological and material progress we make will confound our forefathers, but they will also lament our lack of moral progress over the years. They sacrificed giving us valuable lessons but we forget them without conscience. I believe being ungrateful will bring us grief.

Nature has ever been ever benevolent, encouraging us by example - no wonder it is called Mother Nature as it readily forgives our excesses, even the lack of gratitude, and reinvents itself to care for us almost overnight. It even acquiesces to our ever increasing demands without a thought for tomorrow.

I do hope we pause and count the innumerable blessings given us than lead a life like spoiled and ungrateful children! Time to move up another level - siva

Thanks siva,

You often seem to point out the problems then you drive home to us our part in accepting the responsibility for their creation, and also in us also finding the right solution!

Are we really here to improve our worth, to learn our lessons and not to then forget them, and so need to relearn them again?

To me, life is a series of ongoing experiences with love. Love allows you to learn from it only when you love. When you refuse to love, you will not learn, and so you will need to revisit the lesson again and again, until you do.

That’s how I see it anyway.

Thanks Spirited. I am reminded of Phil Campbell's comment - my postings are like fine sand on the beach, but on minute examination, each is different! Maybe, that applies to yours too when you highlight how love is the basis for everything!

Divine love is the foundation of creation and we are its personification expected to live in communion with it We get distracted because we engage in unhealthy competition due to our ego and selfishness even to the extent of killing our own.

Everyone needs reminding and constant course correction in our thinking, so that we do not stray from the heavenly path that is prompted from within.

The state of the world we are in proves stubborn because we are intransigent, recalcitrant. Whenever we could break free, we we have only gained like when we dismantled the Berlin War and got ride of the blot on our conscience due to racial discrimination despite us seeking blessings from the same God! siva

Dear Siva, how we want to build the world we desire is a challenge that depends on our thought processes and actions in this world. A life well and usefully spent in this world will enable us to desire a world where people lead morally upright lives, discarding the vices that plague man today.

Yes dear Subra, we need to press on for the world we desire.

We cannot have unlimited time to get our house in order as the owner can fire us, meaning, change the Board of Directors and more so with us now actively looking for alien life!

They can not only guide us gently but also twist our arms if need be. Better we realize that all good things come to an end unless we prove we are worthy to manage on our own! We cannot hold back creation with our daily infighting! siva
