The Constant Chatter Chapter Eight

I get dressed as Batman for Halloween and I scare grandpa, but I didn't mean to scare him-honest I didn't!

It's Trick Or Treat Time.

I bet you don’t recognize me, do you? – I’m Max! – You thought it was Batman didn’t you? This is just my costume and I’m wearing it because it’s Halloween and mommy is taking me out trick or treating. Everybody has been talking about it and it sounds like a lot of fun – don’t think I’ll trick anyone though – not this year anyway. I’ve been giving it a lot of thought and I think it all had something to do with the church at one time – most things did you know –
I suppose I could ask that minister, the one that tried to drown me – remember? He seems like a pretty dull fellow though and probably wouldn’t know much about it anyway. I think I could still teach him a few things although I’ve forgotten most of what I knew before I came here. I’ve heard him preach a couple of times and I kept yelling “it’s all about love – love I tell you – love”. Of course, he didn’t understand me, and then I started to cry and mommy took me home. How do I get through to that man?
Mommy of course, blames it all on me and says I have to be good in church and not cry because people can’t hear the minister! Can you imagine that? Well, I think I must be an old soul or something to be chattering away about that when I should be thinking about all the stuff I’m going to get tonight. It don’t make much difference I suppose, Mommy is not going to let me eat any of it anyway – well – maybe a little.

I Scare Grandpa

I didn’t really mean to frighten grandpa it was just an accident honest it was! I knocked on the door, or mommy did it for me, and when grandpa opened it, I fell on the floor at his feet. I guess it must have been pretty scary seeing Batman like that. I honestly thought that grandpa was having a heart attack! He had his hand to his chest and mommy and Uncle Sid had to help him to the sofa. I kept saying, “it’s me, grandpa, it’s me” but no one understands me around here, not even when I yelled “call 911, call 911”. I was so scared I couldn’t even remember my medical training!
Anyway, he started to come around when grandma got a cold cloth and placed it on his forehead. Wow! I was so relieved. I guess I’m just going to have to be more careful, I think grandparents panic quite easily. He was fine afterwards though and he and grandma gave me some treats. Mommy decided we should come home after that and I had to agree, I really didn’t want to scare anyone else and probably send them to the hospital. Funny, I’ve never thought of Batman as being that scary. I guess the next big thing is Christmas, that’s when some fat old man comes down the chimney. Now that I gotta see!

poor old gramps.

My own grandpa used to put up a lot with me too.

Your story brings back some nice old memories of what it was like, Kingwell, keep the chapters churning over.

I think in this case Gramps was having more fun pretending than Max did. You were fortunate, all my grandparents had passed away before I was born. Blessings.

The old sure loose their footing and confidence as they grow older and some slip back into childhood - maybe, getting ready for the parting and rebirth!

As child is said to be the father of man - may Max get the right upbringing but also have a mind of his own to add variety to creation. Lovely chapter, thanks Kingwell - siva

Thank you Siva. A lifetime here is very short but it's good that the young don't think that way. In reality of course there is no time just now and life never ends it just changes. Great thoughts.Blessings.
