The Constant Chatter Chapter Fifteen

I enjoy listening to my parents and some friends talking about the trouble they got into when they were kids.

Laughter-The Best Medicine.

Oh boy!-but this was a fun day! I don’t think I’ve laughed as much before and it felt good too, maybe it’s true about laughter being the best medicine. I know it’s better than the stuff Dr. Simms Prescribed when I had a cough last month-that tasted terrible. Getting back to today though, mommy and daddy had some friends over and after dinner, they were sitting around chatting about when they were kids, and boy some of the pranks they played on each other were hilarious! It was the same with everyone and I soon discovered that even girls are not as innocent as they pretend to be! There were some things that they didn’t want me to hear because they would spell some words or just whisper – I think they must have been really bad sometimes – well perhaps not THAT bad – but I bet there were things that they didn’t want their parents to know! I’m beginning to learn that they were like me at one time and someday I’ll be like them – maybe I’ll even be like grandma and grandpa or even my great-grandmother that I still haven’t met. I bet even they did things that they wouldn’t want people to know today – ha ha, can you imagine your grandparents as two tormenting little kids? I wonder what happened to my great – grandfather - did he have to go away some place? I must remember to ask mommy tomorrow.

Nath went back to school today, he’s in grade 4 this year, I guess that means he has a lot of education. It sure seems like it because he can do a lot of stuff. He still needs mommy to help him sometimes though, I guess you can never know as much as your mother. Ike quit school last year and went to work in a supermarket downtown, he even has a girlfriend now but I don’t think mommy and daddy are very happy about it. I don’t know why though, because he always seems to have lots of money and Ellie is VERY good looking! I’m going to be 4 next month and mommy said I’ll start school next year but I don’t know what I’ll do there because I can’t read or write or even colour very well. Maybe I’ll just sit there and watch everyone like grandma says she’s going to do in heaven because she can’t sing. Anyway next year is so far away that it’s like “forever”, so why should I worry now?
Hey! I think I’ve got a loose tooth! Oh boy, that means the tooth fairy is going to bring me some money wheeee! Now how much did Mitchell say the tooth fairy left for him last week? Was it two dollars or two hundred dollars? I’m not sure but I know it was a lot of money! Maybe if I give it to daddy he can retire and then we can walk Charlie whenever we want. Mommy says I’m going to lose all those teeth and get new ones, imagine how rich I’m going to be …. Move over Bill Gates!

Each generation had good times in the circumstances though we seem to lack the time for each other now.

Max is growing up fast - almost four now and getting ready for school and then will be on fast track!

Lovely story Kingwell, cannot wait to read about his teenage romance! siva
