I'm getting ready to start school and I'm both scared and excited. I go to Sunday School too but I have my doubts about the Bible and think the minister may be writing it himself!

Getting Ready For School

This is really weird. How can I be excited about going to school and yet scared at the same time? All my friends will be there, how can I NOT want to go? Maybe I know that this is the first step in becoming an adult and I don’t feel ready for it. I’m sure that mom (Nath and Ike tell me that I have to stop saying mommy or everyone at school will laugh at me) had tears in her eyes today when she had me try my new clothes to make sure that everything fitted properly. Maybe she doesn’t want me to grow up so fast either or maybe she just doesn’t want to be home alone all day. Perhaps she’ll think about going back to work again, after deciding not to take that job with Dr. Simms a few years ago. I was happy at the time though because I really didn’t want to be left with a babysitter all day.
This is Saturday night and school starts on Monday, so I don’t have much time to think about it. I sure don’t want anyone to think I’m scared though. Oh I’m not REALLY scared, just apprehensive. WOW! That’s a big word! Guess I must have swallowed the dictionary! This way I may not have to go to school at all. I have my backpack, not much in it though, I guess the teacher will tell us what we need. Mommy – oops I mean mom, says it’s even different now from when Nath started school. With things changing all the time I guess it’s hard to keep up. Nath has his own computer now and he’s even on facebook. Mom and dad (Wow! Listen to me will you?) weren’t so sure about it at first until they discovered that all his friends were there. Guess I’d better try to sleep, I have to go to church and Sunday school tomorrow. Last week they told us the story of Adam and Eve, I’m not sure that it’s true though, I wouldn’t be surprised if the minister made it all up!

A Best Seller!

The one good thing about Sunday school is I get to see Danny, and he’s my best friend. Mitchell and Noah are my friends too but Mitchell doesn’t go to church or Sunday school at all, and Noah’s parents take him to another church on the other side of town. That don’t make much sense to me, why drive away across town when there’s a perfectly good church on your own street? Anyway, Danny is there and we always sit together because that’s what best friends do. Today, they told us about someone named Cain and how he killed his own brother! I don’t think they should be telling us about things like that – I’m not sure about God either – I think he’s playing favorites. Of course if the minister really IS writing it all, I think he’d better keep at it, you never know – he just might have a best seller there someday! Danny starts school tomorrow too and we’re hoping to be sitting near each other. Mitchell and Noah will be there as well, so I feel much better now. I wonder if I’ll be really bright in school – I can already tell time and mom and dad were so impressed that they bought me a watch. I’ll probably be the only kid in Junior Kindergarten with one. Now that would be neat!

This chapter brings back so many memories. I remember going to Sunday school back in the early 1990s and how nervous I was... Thanks for sharing! I enjoyed reading this part!!!

The first day in school is not easy for any kid, but we have to go through many phases in life before we reach our destination. Challenges are necessary but, sometimes, we have no clue how to overcome them, looks like end of the world at times!

However, the world is changing and looks too fast. But kids should adapt. You bring the inner thoughts, fears and hopes of children so well Kingwell, indeed a pleasure to read yours anytime - siva
