This is a poem about time, and how the years come raining down, and what we hope for ourselves as time runs low.

The Cool Green Color of Rain

The Cool Green Color of Rain

It rained last night.
It came down
So hard and thick
It keep me up
Till morning light
With its bitter
Pitter-patter
On my window panes.

This Was End of Winter

This was that cold
End of winter

Kind of rain,
The kind of storm
That only comes
When you are wishing
For sunshine.

In the Morning Light

And now
In the morning light
Here I stand
Alone and cold
In the cool mist
Bowed in my frame
By this stain
Of weather,

Here I Stand

Yes...Here I stand
Huddled against the garden gate
As best I can,
Conquering my fear of rain
My morning pain
And trying to think
Of what to plant this spring.

The Last of the Beans

We finished the last of the beans
Last night, I believe,
And the last of the corn meal,
But we still have
Plenty of bottled beats,
Tomatoes and zucchinis.

Like a Bent Finger

I’m walking,
Like a bent finger now,
Cold in my age
And stiff of bone
Wondering what I have left
Buried in the dust
Of my years

Feeling like I was peeled

Feeling like I was peeled
From this morning’s mirror.
Thinking about the twilight years,
When there is little left inside
Old men, Like me
And hoping
With all my might
That it was love
I planted the most of.

Utah, this is wonderful. I think it's your best work ever! I may say that every time but that's okay because you are the very best. I loved the words and the pictures. On a side note we finished the last of our peppers from our gardens last week and I must say those beets look good. I'm sharing this on all my sites. Just for the record you will never be old. Please don't let the world convince you of that because you are very young at heart.

Don't worry about turning brown like the leaves and dropping off. The real life-flux goes on.

Like a bent finger, stiff of bone, bowed in my frame....oh, how I can relate!

Time is not kind, but these bones are not ready to be dust just yet. Besides, you have preserves yet in your pantry...resources that you put there yourself, weary bones or not! Admirable!

What a wonderful piece this was to read. Hopefully we have all planted more love than anything else in our lives.
