A young maiden plucked petals off a Daisy to affirm her love for her young man who died at sea. This is a poem of love.

The Daisy

In a field of fresh Daisies
in a meadow of green
stood a pretty, young maiden
so calm and serene
looking out o’er the ocean
to a far distant shore
she prayed for a loved one
that she’d see nomore

She picked a fresh flower
smelled its fragrant perfume
a flower so fragile
its beauty in bloom
She Gently pulled off a petal
first one then another
In methodical order
affirming love for each other

Though deep down inside
She knew fully well
this is just a tradion
The Daisy can’t really tell
How could a plant know
if their love had been true
for this is a secret
only both of them knew

She plucked off more petals
and as each one did fall
she thought of her lovers
tragic death in a squall
His Schooner capsized
and all onboard drowned
not one soul survived
not one body was found

She plucked the second last petal
only one more remained
her eyes filled with tears
and her voice became strained
The last petal was plucked
she said the words “He loves me”
she whispered “I love you too
til eternity
