10th Oct 2014 was a Black day for us, for we lost our two and half years old daughter due to a paralytic attack, when a heavy bag fell in front of her nose...Post retirement we have shifted from our service Bunglow in Colaba to a 2BHK in Borivali, 10 days ago...this transition from a protected service environment to a life in civic street is akin to a second birth, even as your service umbilcal is snapped...it takes a little time to adjust, but we are trained to fit into the groove...

The Day We Lost Brusky

10th Oct 2014 was a Black day for us, for we lost our two and half years old daughter due to a paralytic attack, when a heavy bag fell in front of her nose...Post retirement we have shifted from our service Bunglow in Colaba to a 2BHK in Borivali, 10 days ago...this transition from a protected service environment to a life in civic street is akin to a second birth, even as your service umbilcal is snapped...it takes a little time to adjust, but we are trained to fit into the groove of things fast...Self and wife Meena started our evening walks to test the waters around...world looked beautiful around our society Ashok Van, one of the oldest society, where post retirement my FIL, Cdr VP Bakhshi anchored temporarily before shifting berth to Jhansi permanently...that decision of his, enabled me to follow his footsteps, due to Anuj’s final yr graduation, as we plunked into his same house that he has kept vacant as his 3 month annual vacation berth...We intend to finally drop anchor at Pune for good mid-next year
So along with us, accompanied our small little daughter to our temporary shelter at Borevali, the same little thing who sprang atop my chest when I was bedridden during my sick-leave post surgery last year...she was a favourite of us all, but was most favourite of Meena, who used to cuddle her with petting strokes on her neck with her palms so often...Whenever she felt the urge to be cuddled, she used to clumsily but calmly slip beside her and gesture her with begging round red eyes...
When a day before yesterday afternoon that ominous bag fell in front of her, it impacted her nervous system and paralyzed her beautiful body engulfed in white fine fur...We lifted Bruski and took her to the rear street Vet Dr Pingle who examined her and gave her some oral sedatives...At night Bruski lay on our bed between me and Meena, blinking her red round eyes before going to sleep peacefully...Next morning she was totally immobile. Meena put a small piece of cauliflower leaf, that she relished, between her teeth, ...She did move her feet slightly, albeit for the last time, before breathing her last...Her beautiful large red marble eyes, slowly and steadily turned white...We cremated her yesterday forenoon in the backyard garden...Meena has been weeping so often since yesterday...loss of a daughter is unbearable for her...Only time shall heal her.
Very often we take things and people for granted because they are easily available. While we enjoyed with her, we never appreciated her worth or contemplated her loss. My suggestion to all those who don’t have a Pet...Never adopt one, to avoid the pain of its loss one day...And to those who do have; shower all your love on your pet, as tomorrow it may be late...Yes, tomorrow 'it-may-be-Late'.. as our most adorable Late Brusky..Amen.

We have five cats, one of which belonged to my wife before I met her and the others we have rescued as strays. It is heartbreaking to lose a pet.
