The Dentist Chair....

The dreaded visit to the Dentists comes to us all, filling some with fear and dread..A tongue in cheek look at a six monthly check up...

The Dentist Chair......The Dreaded Check Up...

I'm lying on the Dentists chair,
staring at his nasal hair,
as he pokes and prods at my poor teeth...
Hey! There's a woman here, underneath!

Strange gibberish, as he converses,
information to his nurses...
Blood pressure rises, he is counting...
I can feel the Bill start mounting!

I think that maybe he is willing...
to retire on my ton of fillings..
Or maybe find some kind of action,
as he contemplates a few extractions...

I see his tools, all sat there gleaming...
And in my head, I know I'm screaming...
He pulls teeth with maniacal glee,
How bad is this now going to be?...

I see him reaching for his drill...
Huge injection, overkill...
Foaming at the mouth is grim,
and that's not me, yep, it is him!

Just as I'm about to flee...
I come back to reality..
This orthodontic nightmare scene,
Phew! is no more than a bad bad dream...

He sits me up, it's time to pay
but smiles and says 'No work today
It all looks good, your teeth are fine...
I'll see you here, in Six months time!'

The very thought of a dentist makes my teeth chatter, SB. Your poem's imagery is excellent.

Thank you Delicia and Buzz! Glad that you had a chuckle at this one..Not a lover of dentists, as when I was a kid, had 15 milk teeth taken out all at once...as adult teeth were coming through..Traumatised me for years! lol!!

Well, I know what I ask for when I have the dentist peering over me. Surgical sunglasses (because of the lights) and Anesthesia as I am very scared of the Bloody dentist. I can take any pain but not a toothache and they literally empty the whole bottle just to do a filling and I walk out with a $500 bill each time. Know what it feels like to have teeth pulled out. I had my front teeth and couple of grinders pulled out at the age of 6 after couple of slaps from the doctor and yes that was the start with my tryst with Anesthesia due to the fear of the dentist...
Brought back memories.... Know what that feels like but I have my 28 teeth but lack my wisdom as two refused to show and the other two hit the nerve and nearly killed my hearing/listening to what people had to say...

Haha Bev I know the feeling very well. It's really great when they tell you that all is fine and to see you in six months. My dentist said he would like to see me every three months. He is not going to though I might add lol I'm not made of money haha..great poem made me laugh!!

You painted a very good picture in this poem. I visualized myself at the dentist's office during my checkup. I'm glad that everything was fine.

Yes the nasal hair can be an off-putting sight. Man I used to go to seemed always to chew garlic and had the annoying habit of constantly humming to himself. 6 months is not long enough I say.
