The 'Double Century' Milestone: Looking back and looking ahead

Sharing a personal journey on Wikinut, full of interesting experiences, new learning(s), and a longing for coming back on this site again and again. Sharing my stint here so far, and what I plan to do in the future.

Looking back at a slow yet steady journey

Hark back to the time of June to August 2014. I was writing almost 7 to 8 articles per month. Ideas were flowing freely in my mind on diverse topics. I was into commenting on many articles and then there were kind of informal debates that follow when we comment, comment on comment and then comment back again on a response.
Yet, life runs its own course. Life doesn't care for what we are liking or where we are finding a great deal of joy. I had a lot of professional and personal life commitments that cropped up, and I had to slow down on Wikinut. However, my urge to come back and back again on Wikinut, engage here did not die down, and I kept on writing articles of my interest and being engaged here.

My journey had started around August of 2012. Initially, it was not a glorious start. I wrote a few articles here and there, and often the language was not something that could be termed as great. In fact, once I asked for feedback from one of the moderators here, and I was a bit surprised to know that my language had a lot more flaws than I was aware of.

Steadily, however, I began to get more ideas. I also observed how people wrote here, what titles could appeal the people. One of my first significant articles here was about a Movie:
"Oh My God!". The article also did reasonably well. I started gaining confidence and gained more recognition here. The years 2013 to the present saw me putting a lot of effort in writing articles here. For some of these, I even first wrote in a diary or a notebook and then painstakingly wrote on this site.

The Milestone: '200 Mark' or 'Double Century' in Wikinut

A Double Century is a tough yet glorious milestone in my favorite game of cricket. It might not be a significant milestone in sheer numeric terms on Wikinut. Yet, I have tried to keep my quality of writing on Wikinut up to at least a minimum level. True, there has been some pedestrian stuff and mediocre writing at times by I, yet it was a day of joy when I wrote my 200th Article here.
My journey here has been quite significant, perhaps maybe, not in the terms of money I have made here, but the passion for writing I have developed here. I have improved my writing skills here. I have learnt how to use proper sentence length. My paragraph structuring has improved. My formatting, though still subject to moderator comments has also improved.

I would like to convey my gratitude to the passionate moderators, especially Peter, Mark and Steve, and to some extent to Johnnydod, who has been a bit of less active here of late. Their moderator comments as well as articles have guided me a lot, and have been inspiring also.
Other folks like the Champion writer Madan G Singh, the man who speaks a lot from his inner conscience- Siva, John Welford have also been quite inspiring. Then we have Nancy who has been entertaining us with her "Dynamic Duos" story series. I can go on and on, and I am sorry if someone feels that I did a criminal act by not taking their name(s) :).

Of late, I have been writing on various Movies I have seen. I am not sure why I do this. It is not as per any grand plan, but perhaps I like to write about them.
Some of my recent works which got some attention were on the Movies MI4 and Jurassic World.

I am also fond of Technical Articles, on software development and software methodologies. Often, such articles get less number of hits, yet these are from my core skills and I love to write them.
Some noteworthy ones have been

Another of my favorites have been some of the children stories that I have written.
Then, last year, I also wrote a detective story series- "The Kidnap of Simon Hendricks", which marked my first time foray into writing short stories, with an ultimate aim of writing a full fledged novel.
I have also forayed into topics of social significance, and offbeat topics like "The Challenge of Writing a Restaurant Review."

I had my misses too, like another story series which I started yet I cannot progress beyond the first part, owing to lack of time, and perhaps a bit due to lack of ideas.
I have also been commenting on others' articles, and at times getting into little debates. At times, getting into healthy discussions also opens our minds and is a bit of stress reliever when we are feeling low.
I also share articles that I like on Google+ and Twitter, and I feel this is something that benefits Wikinut as a whole and some trickle down benefit would come to us also.

Looking ahead on Wikinut

A future statement of intent is something that every good Enterprise does for its continuing growth. This practice is recommended for individuals as well. I am not sure whether I will be able to fully implement what I plan. Yet, I do plan to focus on the following:

  1. Continue with writing on Movies, and perhaps with more of good self clicked pictures.
  2. A few projects of short story series.
  3. Writing stories for kids.
  4. International, or national issues, and novel reviews and things from my heart.
  5. Off-beat topics: May be something like: "Roadmap for the NGOs of the Day"?

Of course, I do also plan to keep on using Google+, Twitter, and the new kid: Tsu for sharing other people's works. And perhaps earmark a few days for commenting and getting into healthy debates with fellow Wikinut writers.

Congratulations, Ptrikha and thanks too for the mention.

As I am almost retired now I can spend more time here - the only site I am active now. I may not be qualified to compare Wikinut with other sites, but I always have a longing to log in to this site! And I like to post, comment, only when I have time to make a difference, be it through articles or comments. .

You have written on variety of subjects and I know how tough it is as you are a full time working professional. I will try to read all your articles and give my comments too. Wish you all success in your passion. Step-by-step we get ahead.

Life is enriched through sharing what we have, we capable of, so that society benefits. That is what matters as our enduring contribution during our sojourn here - siva

At one time I used to write 3-6 articles per day, but I no longer have time for that. For sure using Facebook and other sites to promote views can help too but so can just connecting with other writers as you clearly have done.
