The tow truck driver had been nice enough to drop everyone off at home. They are now home waiting out the storm. Freddy was watching the news and mom was cooking dinner. Dad's waiting for a call from forensics about the clue Katie found. Molly and Milly are watching the snow come down.

Treacherous weather conditions

Dad was in his office when the call came in from forensics. The Captain wanted Dad to come into the station to discuss the investigation. Dad explained to the Captain about the van being in the shop so they discussed the findings on the phone. Dad was in his office where he thought his call would be private. That would have been true except for the fact that Molly was on the case. When the phone rang Molly picked up the phone in the living room at the same time Dad picked up his office phone. She covered the speaker so Dad wouldn't hear her breathing as she listened to the call. The cigarette butt wasn't a match for anyone in their data base. They were going to keep the information on file just in case they got another clue they could test against the first one. It was rather disappointing news but in the long run it may lead to the culprit. As soon as Molly heard the news she quietly hung up the phone. Milly had been watching Molly the whole time. Milly started to say something but Molly cut her off right in the middle of her sentence. She swore her to secrecy. At times like this mum was the word.

Molly has a secret plan

When dinner was ready mom called everyone to the table. Molly heard Dad open his office door. She watched him walk into the dining room and sit down at the table. He never said a word about the phone call. It was a good thing Molly had the sense to listen to the private conversation. It was imperative that she stay in the loop with this investigation. Dad was withholding information again. He did that a lot and Molly found it necessary to stay one step ahead of him at all times. Mom made an exceptionally nice dinner and she even made apple pie for dessert. It was one of Molly's favorite treats. Molly was quiet while she ate her food. She had a plan that would require using Dad's computer. She would have to wait until he went down to the family room to watch the football game. Molly would listen for the game to come on and then she'd sneak into his office. If she was quiet Dad wouldn't suspect a thing.

Molly does some research

After dinner Dad went down to the family room just as Molly knew he would. She waited till she heard the sportscaster on the television and then she quietly made her way down the hallway and into Dad's office. Dad's computer had issues so it would take a few minutes for it to come on. Molly was in a hurry and she knew just what she was looking for. She typed in the curator's name and waited for the information to come on the screen. She was surprised how many people had the same name. Finally she found what she was looking for and waited for the information to load. It was the right curator because his picture came up almost immediately. Just as Molly had suspected he had a record. He had lived out west for a period of time and had been involved in some petty crimes. There was nothing really serious but it did show his character. Molly was going to keep her eye on him.

Molly covers her tracks

Molly turned off Dad's computer and shut the light off in the office. She opened the door and made sure the coast was clear before she left the office. She walked quietly down the hall and went in the living room. Freddy was watching the news just like he always did and Milly was downstairs with Dad. Mom had the fireplace on so Molly decided to sit on the couch and watch the snow come down. The icicles on Robert's house were getting longer and the snow was getting deeper. Molly could see the trees swaying back and forth in the wind. She had a lot on her mind but decided to keep it to herself. It definitely wasn't right for Dad to withhold information from the team. She would see how he would like the same kind of treatment. She was going to keep her findings secret until the time was right. There was nothing the team could do tonight. The blizzard was keeping everyone inside where they were safe and warm.

Molly is a smart dog! I liked how she did her research on the curator before making her next move. She is definitely a valuable member of the team! Good job, Nancy! Your story is a perfect winter tale!

Molly is the kingpin - not only has she to listen on the stealth what is going on as Dad plays it hard, she has to do independent research too.

Looks like the culprit is sort of the guard too but one never knows for sure and we are told not to judge another.

Thanks Nancy, you are not only the top sleuth but also the motivator at Wikinut! siva

Carol thanks for your awesome comment. I'm thinking that his petty crimes didn't show up at the time or possibly they just didn't check. I bet he's a smooth talker. Animals know when someone is bad.
