The city has been shut down by a raging blizzard. Everyone is home waiting out the storm. Molly did some detective work while Dad was watching the football game. She found out the curator's background was not squeaky clean. He was now at the top of Molly's list of suspects.

The mysterious lady

Molly was sitting in the living room watching the snow come down. She had lived through her fair share of blizzards but this one seemed like one of those hundred year storms. Freddy was glued to the news station and all the news reporter was talking about was the storm. It was getting a little annoying to Molly. The freeways were shut down and most roads were not passable. Molly really wanted to get back to the museum and look for some more clues but there was just no way possible in this weather. Molly was going over the clues in her mind. The discarded cigarette was very interesting. The cigarette butt had lipstick on it. There had to be a woman involved in the heist. It was the only thing that made sense. Did the curator have a girlfriend? Was she in on the heist? Why would anyone want an old painting? The forensics lab wasn't able to come up with a name. Only time would tell what was really going on at the museum. On that note Molly jumped off the couch and went to bed. It had been a long day. As Molly passed Freddy's fish bowl she just shook her head. How much news could one fish listen to in a day. Freddy didn't see Molly because he was too busy watching the news. He was afraid he'd miss something if he turned his head for a minute.

The clock chimes midnight

As the evening progressed and turned into night the snow drifted higher and higher. Milly was laying in bed listening to the wind. It made her shiver and she pulled the covers up over her head. She was laying in Mom and Dad's big king size bed. There was plenty of room for everybody in the bed. Mom was sound asleep and Milly inched closer to her. She didn't like storms and this one appeared to be worse than most. The house was quiet but every now and then Milly would hear the furnace kick on. Rusty was asleep upstairs and Freddy was downstairs in his fish bowl. Just before midnight Molly came in and crawled in bed next to Dad. Molly always acted brave but Milly knew for a fact that she was afraid of storms. The bed was getting a little crowded. All three kids found their way into bed and they were sleeping between Mom and Dad. Milly was closest to Mom and Molly was sleeping next to Dad. Just as the clock chimed midnight Rusty came in and got under the covers. Now there were three kids, Mom and Dad, one dog, one cat and one raccoon. Milly fell asleep listening to Molly snore.

Breaking news update

Freddy was so exhausted he fell asleep a little after midnight. He'd been watching the news around the clock and he just simply needed a little rest. While he was asleep a news bulletin flashed across the screen. Freddy was going to be so upset when he found out that he missed the news update. The reporter was standing in front of the museum. Fire trucks were surrounding the building and there were firemen running in and out of the building with hoses. There was black smoke billowing out of the third floor windows. The reporter announced that there was an investigation under way. Everybody including Freddy was sound asleep so the team missed the news. The wind was whipping around and making the drifts higher and higher as the storm continued throughout the night.

Early morning surprise

Dad woke up to the phone ringing. It took him a few minutes to find the phone and when he finally answered the caller hung up. He searched around the night stand to find his glasses. He couldn't see the caller ID without his glasses and it was still dark. He tried to crawl out from under the covers but he had a child on one side and Molly on the other side. It took him a few minutes to move Molly without waking her up. He slid out of bed and quietly walked into the bathroom and shut the door and turned on the light. He had the phone in his hand and he looked to see who was calling so early in the morning. It was the police station. Dad returned the call and spoke quietly into the phone. The Captain told Dad about the fire at the museum. It was a total loss. They were going to send out investigators to see what had caused the fire. Dad told the Captain to keep him informed. It was such a cold morning that Dad went back to bed and got under the covers. It wasn't time to get up yet so he still had a little while to sleep.

The image of Freddy watching the news in his fish bowl is too much! Such a cute story. You can keep all of that snow. It reminds me of our blizzard of 93'

Thanks Sherri for the awesome comment. Just the thought of Freddy makes me smile. Can you just imagine! I've lived through my fair share of blizzards. That's why it's so easy to write about them. Smiles to you tonight and always!

Sherri, thank you so much for the comment. I do love to see the gold stars but as I've said before they are always a surprise. I never know when I'm getting one. I do know that the Dynamic Duo is getting quite popular around the web. I think the team is now writing the story. LOL

Freddy should not feel too bad, he needed some sleep and even if he was awake when the report came on, he could not have changed anything

Mark, thanks for the awesome comment. I know Freddy will be so upset but you are right there would be nothing that could have been done even if the whole team was there. Smiles to you today and everyday!

The culprit seems to be jumping from the frying pan to the fire!

The curator should be feeling the heat even without the fire!
I think he is making a last ditch stand to save his skin when he knows his game is up with our crack team tightening the noose!

Gripping tale, thanks Nancy - siva

Siva, thanks for your awesome comment. I loved it! It's hard to tell what's going on and the team slept through the breaking news so when they wake up they will have to come up with some kind of plan. The storm is still brewing so the roads aren't passable and there's going to be an investigation so that should help the team. Maybe! Thanks for being such a good friend Siva!

Stella, thank you so much for such a beautiful comment. I'm so glad that you like my writing style. I like my stories to be enjoyable and I also like them to be easy reading. My goal is to be able to make people smile. This story is one of my favorites because it's centered around winter.
