Dad made an appointment with the curator. He had some questions that only the curator could answer. He's meeting him at his house in the late afternoon. Dad did not share with the team where he was going which could be a big mistake.

Dad leaves the team behind

The weather was turning bad again. Snow was coming down and the roads were icy. As Dad pulled out of the driveway he noticed Robert looking out his front window. He would probably call Molly and ask where Dad was going alone. He felt it was better to leave the team at home. The meeting with the curator was going to be intense and Dad didn't want to involve the team members in a sticky situation. Molly and the curator didn't get along so it was best that she stayed home. Dad had the van and it was sliding on the freeway. The tires weren't the best and the roads were slick. When he got to his exit he was glad to get off the highway. He slid down the ramp and came to a stop at the light. The curator lived two blocks from the highway and Dad drove slowly toward his house. When he pulled into the driveway he noticed the kitchen light on in the back of the house. There were no other lights on in the house. The curator knew he was coming so it seemed odd that there was only one light on. Dad got out of the van and walked to the back of the house. His boots were covered in snow because it looked like the drive hadn't been shoveled in days. Dad knocked on the door and the curator opened the door on the second knock.

The late afternoon meeting

When the curator opened the door Dad had to do a double take because the curator was a mess. It was obvious that he'd been drinking and it looked like he hadn't slept in days. There were dark circles under his eyes and he just grunted and waved his arm for Dad to enter the room. For one minute Dad thought that maybe he should have told the team where he was going and why. This situation could get ugly fast. The man smelled like a brewery and he was talking to himself. Dad knew that was not good. There was a possibility that he'd totally lost it. Dad shut the back door but stayed close to the door.

The incident

The curator waved Dad into the dining room and he hesitated a minute because he felt safer near the door. Dad started to walk around the kitchen table and approach the dining room door. At that exact moment the curator hit Dad and knocked him down. His head hit the side of the table and he fell forward. Dad was knocked out cold. This would have been a very good time for Molly to be in the house. Dad was alone and the curator was up to no good. Molly would have known what to do. The curator dragged Dad into the dining room and picked him up and put him on a chair. He used rope to secure Dad to the chair. Dad was in trouble. There was no doubt about it. It was dinner time and he was going to be missing in action. It wouldn't take long for the team to realize something was wrong.

The team meets at the house

Dinner came and went and Dad didn't come home. Molly had a bad feeling about this. She had a sixth sense when it came to Dad and she knew he was in trouble. She called Robert and he came right over. He was covered in snow when he walked through the door. Miss Darcy was worried and Freddy quit watching the news to listen to what Molly said. Rusty came down from the attic and they all gathered around Molly. Milly knew the team was going to be called into action and it was very cold outside. She was going to have to find her winter coat. The scarf grandma made for her would come in handy tonight. Molly could not understand why Dad didn't include the team in his plans. She had a feeling he went to the curator's house by himself. That was certainly not a good plan. Now they were going to have to find a ride there. It was too far to walk in this weather.

The plan to save Dad

It was Rusty that came up with the plan to save Dad. He told Robert to call a cab. The cab driver would want to know why he was transporting two dogs, one cat, one raccoon and one bird across town. Robert said he would do the talking and convince the man that it was a matter of life and death. Milly went to her room and counted out all her change to pay the driver. She had been saving for a present for grandma but she couldn't think about that right now. They had to save Dad.

The cab ride

It took the cab driver over an hour to get to the house. When he pulled into the driveway Robert went out to talk to the man. He seemed nice enough and said he would take them where they needed to go. Robert motioned for the rest of the team to come out and get in the back seat. Robert was going to ride up front with the cab driver so he could show him where they needed to go. Molly was beside herself, when this was over and Dad was safe she was going to lecture him on leaving the team behind. Miss Darcy was glad they had a ride because it was a little too cold to be flying in this weather. Milly had her scarf and winter coat on and she was preparing for battle.

Happy to see you are still writing, was sorry to see the loss of income here and just could not justify staying here myself.

That blizzard looks similar to the one that we had here in 1993.

the curator could still muster enough strength to subdue dad despite the condition he was in. I am sure the team will find both of them in deep slumber.

Yes Nancy, dad cannot afford to leave the team behind but seems never to learn from past mistakes - siva

Siva, thank you so much for your wonderful comment as always. Can you seriously believe that Dad left the team behind. I think he really should include them in the investigation. Now he's in trouble and I hope the team gets to him in time. Siva, Happy New Year to you and your family!

You are so welcome. I liked the story about The Blizzard and A Night Ride. I see you like to write animal stories. I used to before I started writing about oral care.

"She had a sixth sense when it came to Dad and she knew he was in trouble."

These wonderful creatures of which Molly is one, all seem to have this sixth sense, so well developed.

They seem to always know when we are coming and going, even before we come and go!!

Happy New Year Nancy.

I thought I'd better pop onto your page, before it gets too far into it!!

Oooh! I have been missing out because I have been negligent on wikinut lately. LOL. You are so wise working that 6th sense in, because everyone who is an animal lover KNOWS their 6th sense most definitely exists. Great chapter!
