Dad, Molly, Robert and Rusty went out searching for the underground tunnel. They walked along the old railroad tracks for awhile and then turned onto a path that took them to a waterfall and then to the tunnel. When everything was cleared Robert and Molly went inside but it was obvious nobody had been in the tunnel for many years. Today was a new day and the team would start searching again.

The old map holds secrets

Dad decided to sleep in this morning. For two days they had been searching the park for old tunnels. The search had taken them down some old railroad tracks and to a beautiful waterfall. They'd gone off the beaten path to find an old underground tunnel but had no luck. The rest of the team was ready to go but Dad was still in bed. While Dad was sleeping Robert decided to open up the map and study it for awhile. It was definitely an old map and he was sure it held many secrets. It was Robert's job to figure out what they were.

Expanding the search

They got a late start to the park. Dad said he felt a little rundown and was moving kind of slow this morning. When they pulled out of the drive Dad was driving and Robert was sitting in the front seat. Molly, Milly, Rusty and Sally were in the backseat. Dad said they needed to expand their search. Robert had found an area that was just outside the park. It looked very interesting. It was an old cemetery and everyone knew that there could be secret hideouts around old burial grounds. Milly and Sally didn't like the sound of this search but Dad had asked them to come along. They were both wearing whistles just in case they were needed.

Milly and Sally stay behind

Dad drove to the edge of the park and parked on an old dirt road. Everybody got out of the car and waited for Dad to point the way. Dad crossed the dirt road and motioned for the team to follow him. They were walking in single file along the path. Robert was second in line behind Dad. Molly was behind Robert and Milly and Sally were behind Molly. Rusty was the last one in line. It was his job to make sure everyone was okay. When they got to the old cemetery Milly refused to venture any further. Milly said she wouldn't go one step further. Sally didn't like this place either so she decided to remain behind with Milly. Rusty walked around the two girls and followed Dad. From what the map showed there was an abandoned tunnel directly behind the grave yard. The team picked up their pace as they walked toward their destination. Molly didn't like this place.

No sign of life

The team walked through the cemetery and around to the back of the wooded area. Dad found the tunnel he was looking for within a few minutes. Robert and Rusty cleared the opening because Dad said he was out of shape and his arms were hurting from the last two tunnels he cleared. Dad told Molly to check out the tunnel. Robert graciously went with her again. There was no sign of life inside. When they came back outside they shook their heads and everyone knew what that meant.

Dad takes pictures

While Rusty had been waiting for Molly and Robert he decided to walk around the back of the old tunnel. He was surprised at what he found. Somebody had made a fire but he couldn't tell who but he did know why. There were beer cans everywhere. Rusty went to get Dad. When he came around the corner Dad saw just what Rusty was talking about. It was either the bad guys or a group of kids. He was going to notify the authorities. Dad took some pictures with his camera and then the team went back to pick up Milly and Sally. They left the park and drove home with pictures in hand.

Rusty seems to have hit the jackpot but one can never be sure! Miss Darcy can do some aerial surveillance and even take snaps of the baddies without them realizing what is going on! Spike can even be within earshot of them as they plan their next heist!

Thanks Nancy for casting the net far and wide to bag the baddies - siva

Siva, as always thank you very much for your wonderful comment. I think you are right and Miss Darcy could fly around doing surveillance without really being noticed. Spike may come in handy soon. The bad guys won't suspect him of being part of the team. I think by the time this case is solved the whole team will know every inch of the park. Smiles to you today and always!

Very interesting Nancy, many things could be found in the pictures that dad had taken. Great story. I can not wait to find out if there is a clue in the pictures.

What a discovery Rusty made around the back of the old tunnel. Maybe Dad can find DNA on the beer cans, which can lead to the identification of the criminals. Great job, Nancy!!!

Yikes, a graveyard! No sign of life inside of the tunnel? The thought of the possibilities are scarier than any old cemetery. Love that early morning photo!
