The museum burned down and Dad, Robert and Molly are on their way to investigate the fire. They are in the van driving toward the square. There's snow everywhere and their sliding all over the road. Molly's hoping they get to the museum in one piece.

Early morning ride

Dad turned a corner going a little too fast and he slid sideways. He got the van under control and slowed down to a crawl. Robert had his seat belt on and Molly was riding shotgun. They passed a group of kids playing in the snow. It was another snow day so everybody was home from school. Molly would have loved to go out and play for a little while but they had business to take care of. A private eye never had time to play because they were always working. Molly knew this better than anyone.

Driving passed the city ice skating pond

On the way to the museum Dad drove passed the city skating pond. There were a lot of kids trying out their ice skates for the first time this year. It was definitely cold enough and they were taking advantage of the day off from school. Molly had to smile as they drove by because there was no way Milly would ever go outside in the cold. She wouldn't care how much fun she could have, she'd be in the house with Mom.

The building

When they pulled up to the museum Dad put the van in park and just sat there with the heater blowing on everyone. Molly and Robert were both thankful they had heat. The building was so badly burned that there was no sight of snow around it. It must have been a raging fire. The top of the building was totally gone. Someone had boarded up the downstairs windows but that was probably so nobody could climb in the building and get hurt. Dad called the police Captain and he said he'd be right over. Everyone stayed in the van and waited. When Dad saw the Captain pull up he got out of the van. Robert and Molly stayed where it was warm.

A very strange sight

Molly and Robert tried to hear what Dad was saying to the Captain but they couldn't hear a word. Finally Dad motioned for them to get out of the van. Molly reached over and turned the engine off. The last thing they needed to do was run out of gas while they were in the building. Robert was looking around the parking lot as he walked up to the door and noticed a tree covered in ice across the street. It was funny what someone would see in the middle of a disaster. The Captain opened the door and everyone walked in. Molly couldn't believe what she was seeing. It was so light in the building and when she looked up she knew why. All she saw was the sky. There was no roof and no upstairs. It was the strangest sight to Molly. They'd just been here the other day and the museum was on the top floor. It was gone along with their evidence. Molly didn't have a plan. She sure hoped Dad had a plan because if not this case was going nowhere fast.

The investigation was underway

Dad told Robert and Molly to stay by the door. He didn't want them to get hurt. The Captain and Dad didn't venture far. They stayed close to the door and talked in whispers. The investigation was underway to find out what caused the fire. Molly figured it was that lady that smoked cigarettes in the museum. She could be jumping to conclusions but she really doubted it. That had been their first clue and it only made sense. If she had thrown a lit cigarette down then Molly would tell her that was a very dangerous thing to do. Of course, Molly had to figure out who she was.

Driving home in the snow

After Dad talked to the Captain for a little while he decided to go home and come up with a plan. He was going to wait for the Fire Marshall to turn in his report. It might help with the investigation. Dad drove through the park on the way home. Robert was looking out the window and got a glimpse of Miss Darcy's friend. He was sitting in a tree near the edge of the road. Robert was going to wave but the blue bird was looking the other way so they just passed him by as they drove through the snow. The roads were still slippery and Molly was glad when they pulled in the driveway at home.

Such a cool place to ice skate. We have one similar to this in downtown Pittsburgh.

What? No time for an investigator to play? I guess that these furball detectives really know their stuff. Excellent story as always. Those old buildings are sad. We have many of them in our area.

Hmmm hopefully they can figure out what started the fire, some part of me suspects arson!

Mark, I think there's a good possibility that you are right and it is arson. Once the report comes back from the Fire Marshall, Dad and the team can come up with a plan. Thank you so much for the comment and for reading this chapter. You are the best!

The museum on the top floor is history - gone with the wind! And it had to happen when the investigators are hot on the heels of the culprits - sure there is a link than a coincidence.

Molly and Robert are indeed a crack team. Dad is lucky to have them. Thanks Nancy for another thrilling chapter - siva

Siva, thanks so much for the awesome comment. I was surprised when the whole top floor of the building was gone. Can you imagine how Molly and Robert felt when they walked through the door and saw the sky. I have every confidence in Dad and the team. I think good will win in the end. Smiles to you today and always.

I had to smile Nancy , at the way you got round the burnt out museum picture by saying , the fire must have been so hot that there was no snow around ...
Good thinking my friend !
I probably would have overlooked that .
I don't know how many people read your stories ...but , if they don't , they are missing a treat .
God bless you
With love ...Stella ><

Stella, thank you so much for the awesome comment. I did find the perfect picture but there was no snow so I had to think about it for awhile but I did come up with a solution. I share my stories on TSU, Twitter, Facebook and Goggle and a lot of people seem to like the team. I've grown very attached to them myself. It's fun to write about each team member because they all have different personalities. Molly's the most opinionated and Milly doesn't like to be cold. Miss Darcy makes me smile because she can fly here, there and everywhere. They are all fun and I think they are actually writing this story. Thanks so much for the blessings and I'm also sending blessings to you. You are the best!

Shamarie, thank you so much for the wonderful comment. I'm so glad you liked the pictures. I, myself could just picture going in the door and looking up and seeing the sky. That would definitely be a strange sight since the team had been upstairs in the museum. Smiles to you today and always!
