Molly woke up in the middle of the afternoon. The whole gang had a hard night. Milly was a mess and would be sidelined for a few days. Her allergies were out of control. Mom gave her allergy medicine and it appeared to be helping, but her one eye would barely open. She said she felt like a truck ran over her. Any plans Molly had would have to be accomplished alone.

Molly's new plan

Dad was still mad so Molly tried to stay out of his way. She waited until he left before leaving the house. Mom was busy cleaning so she wouldn't miss Molly. What she wanted to do would only take a little while and then she'd be back home. Molly planned to walk over to the raccoon's new residence, and talk to him. She brought a bag of food for him. The raccoon could be enticed with the right ingredients. It was raining but that was okay. A little rain never hurt anybody, and besides that Molly was on a mission and she had to learn to accept some bad weather along the way.

Molly goes in search of the raccoon

Molly went out the front door and closed it gently. She didn't want mom to worry about her while she was gone. She walked two streets over and made a left onto the raccoon's street. She was going to walk down to the maple tree and see if he was home. When she got to the tree she saw him asleep high in the tree. She remembered that she brought her whistle. It was on a rope around her neck. She blew on it as hard as she could, and not only woke the raccoon up, but when he jumped up, he fell out of the tree and landed at Molly's feet. He seemed a little annoyed, but that was okay. Molly really needed to talk to him. She offered him the food that she'd brought in a kitchen bag. Molly waited while he ate every morsel. By the time he was done there was nothing left but the bag.

Molly listens to what the raccoon has to say

Molly asked what the raccoon knew about the old cars, that were showing up around the neighborhood. He told her what he knew, but it wasn't much. One night he'd been digging in the garbage cans like he always did and this old car with two guys stopped at the corner. When the one guy saw him, he shot at him and grazed his ear. After that the raccoon decided to find a new tree. He didn't feel safe in his old tree. That's when he moved two streets over and found a bigger tree. He was happy in his new home.

Molly shares her information

Molly shared most of what she knew with the raccoon. She didn't tell him about how mad Dad was, that was on a need to know basis, and he didn't need to know that. She told him about the abandoned building and the stake out. Molly shared what she knew about the chop shop. She also said that she thought the chop shop and the burglaries were connected, but she didn't know how. She asked the raccoon if he would be willing to help the block watch. He did agree because he was good and mad about being nearly killed. Granted he'd only been grazed but it could have been so much worse.

Rusty has agreed to be part of their team

By the time Molly got ready to walk home the rain was coming down harder and there was lightning in the sky. She was going to have to make a run for it. When she got to the corner, she heard the raccoon call her name. She stopped and turned around and he yelled that his name was Rusty. During their meeting he had agreed to help whenever he could. Molly was happy about that, because it was one more member of their team. He may come in really handy, because he knew how to climb. Molly got home just before another torrential downpour.

Snerfu, thanks for continuing to follow Molly and Milly and thanks for the great comment. I was having trouble picking a name for the raccoon and out of the blue it just came to me. Rusty sounded perfect and I'm so glad you like it.

Rusty the raccoon has to prove he is no pushover having been shot at as if his life does not matter. Now every move on the goings-on will be monitored like a CCTV! The eyes and ears are everywhere, no place to hide!

I am glad Rusty was not collaborating with the enemy and eavesdropping on our intrepid team, thanks Nancy - siva

Siva, thank you so much for the awesome comment. In the beginning I wasn't sure if the raccoon was a friend or foe but everything just came together and I like the way the story is progressing. I think Rusty will be an asset to the team.

No wonder the racoon stayed hidden Nancy ..being target practice for some pot-shotter isn't any fun for man or beast alike .
I commiserate with him ...
I like his name as well .
God bless you today

Stella, thank you so much for continuing to follow Molly and Milly. Now that we know Rusty is a friend, we can understand why he moved. At first I thought he was hiding out from the team but now I know what's really good on. Getting shot at is a pretty scary thing. Blessings to you today and always!

Shamarie thank you so much for the wonderful comment. As I write this story I feel like I'm part of the team. When it rains I feel like I'm cold and wet and when they are tired I am tired. I've had so much fun with this story. I spend a lot of time trying to pick out the best photos. I'm glad you like them.

Thanks Jessica for continuing to follow Molly and Milly. A raccoon really isn't a cuddle bunny. LOL
