Thanksgiving Day has arrived and everyone is getting ready for the big day. The turkey's in the oven and the team is arriving one by one to celebrate their first Thanksgiving as a family.

Preparing the Thanksgiving meal

Mom has been in the kitchen since before dawn to put the turkey in the big old roaster pan. She told Molly this turkey was the biggest one they'd ever had. Molly was glad because it was going to have to feed a big crowd. One by one the team had been arriving to celebrate Thanksgiving. Miss Darcy flew in early. She wanted to help mom get ready for dinner. Spike the squirrel arrived close to noon with pinecones to decorate the table. Molly was really impressed and they put them around the table. Molly thought it made the big table look a little more like it may have looked back when the pilgrims were celebrating the first Thanksgiving. Mom loved the idea of the pinecones and promised Spike a treat bag of nuts when the day was done. Spike was smiling on that note. Milly was busy helping Dad clean the family room. There would be a lot of people sharing the room today and everything had to be neat and tidy. Mom had holiday candles lit and the house felt so warm and inviting.

The Thanksgiving Day parade

When everyone was done with their early morning preparations Dad went in the living room to turn on the Thanksgiving Day parade. Molly was worried about how Freddy was going to take this turn of events but he really surprised her. He said he was excited to watch the parade. That fish never failed to amaze Molly. Thank goodness he wasn't going to need therapy when the news channel was switched off. Molly thought it just might do Freddy some good to get away from the doom and gloom of the news. The floats were beautiful this year and everyone enjoyed the parade. Robert sat next to Molly on the couch and the rest of the team was sitting in their favorite spots around the room. Clarissa and Katie were sitting near the fireplace. They loved the warmth of the fire. Rusty was sitting with the girls. He had really missed them since they'd gone back to the pet store. Miss Darcy was perched on the window sill. It was her favorite spot when she came to visit. Molly smiled when she looked over at Miss Darcy because she didn't know that Mom was sending home a bag of wild bird seed for her after dinner. She would be so excited. Maggie the duck was sitting next to Freddy the fish. They seemed to be bonding. That was a very good thing. Freddy needed friends so that he could get his mind off the news once in awhile.

Family arrives to celebrate Thanksgiving

Family and friends started arriving just as the parade was winding down. Mom's brother Pete was the first one to arrived. He was carrying a bottle of white rum. Milly thought to herself that it was not a good idea for Uncle Pete to drink. Uncle Pete had a tendency to drink too much but Mom said it was Thanksgiving and he was family. Milly just rolled her eyes. He'd be laughing and telling terrible jokes before dinner was over. Dad tolerated Uncle Pete because he was Mom's brother. Milly was so happy when Grandma and Grandpa arrived. The snow was still coming down and Grandma had snow on her new coat. Grandpa helped her take off her coat and held her gloves while she took off her boots. They were so cute together. Milly loved Grandma so much. She was soft and smelled so good. She would let Milly sit on her lap. That was the best thing ever. Grandpa always had treats in his pocket for everyone. Milly did love the holidays even if Uncle Pete did drink too much.

Thanksgiving dinner

Mom and Aunt Glenda worked in the kitchen to put the finishing touches on dinner. The dining room table was set and mom put a smaller table next to the big table for the children. Dad put up a big fold up table for the team so they could sit together and enjoy each other's company. He placed it near Freddy's fish bowl so he wouldn't feel left out. Everyone enjoyed their meal. Clarissa and Katie were amazed at all the food that was spread out before them. They'd never been invited to celebrate Thanksgiving before. Everyone was saying what they were thankful for this year and at the top of the list was family and friends. Molly told the whole team about the first Thanksgiving. There had been a lot of animals sharing dinner with the Pilgrims and the Indians. As Molly talked the team listened to every word. She said it was a time of giving thanks for all they had been given. At the end of Molly's story everyone hugged and said Happy Thanksgiving for a year that had brought them all together as a team.

Happy Thanksgiving

Poor mom. She has been working on the meal since before dawn. I remember those days when the girls were young. I love Thanksgiving, but I sure do not miss that!

Sherri, I'm still getting up before dawn to start cooking the turkey and ham. If I were rich I would have the holiday meals catered but it looks like I'll be cooking them for quite some time! LOL

My dear Stella, how happy I was to see you on my page this morning. You are such a delight. I think you must have spent a lifetime being so kind and gracious. You are always so good to me. I thank you so much for the wonderful comment. The way I wrote this story is exactly the way we celebrate Thanksgiving. I cook for days and make Christmas cookies and invite family and friends to enjoy the day. My granddaughter Natasha helped me stuff the turkey along with her Aunt Michelle. I laughed till I cried because she had a hard time putting her hand inside the turkey. She said she didn't even know that turkeys were stuffed. It was so funny and priceless too. Thank you so much for the blessings. I'm sending blessings to you today and always.

You made sure everyone had a great time, thanks Nancy.

Mom should have faced a unique challenge to cater to different palates! Freddy too took his eyes off the news for a while - hope he did not miss any breaking news as he did last time!

Soon it is back to business for everyone, and a job well done and rewarding for mom and that is what moms are for! siva

Siva, thank you so much for the awesome comment. The team will be back to business shortly. It was nice to celebrate Thanksgiving but they have a crime to solve and they can't take too much time off. I think it's good for Freddy to take a break from the news. The team will be refreshed after the Thanksgiving meal they shared together. Smiles to you today and always!
