Dad, Robert and Molly spent part of the day viewing the building where the museum was located before the fire. Molly thought it felt strange to walk in the building and see the sky from inside. All their clues went up in the fire. Now, Dad is waiting for a report from the Fire Marshal and they are back home where it's warm.

Thanksgiving preparations

When Molly walked through the front door she smelled something scrumptious. She would know what mom was making from a mile away. Mom yelled for Dad as he was taking his boots off. She wanted Dad to come in the kitchen and help her. She was baking Christmas cookies for Thanksgiving. This is what she did every year. The aroma was just heavenly. Dad pushed up his sleeves and prepared to get messy. Molly heard Mom tell Dad to wash his hands and get out the flour. Dad washed his hands at the sink and went in the pantry for the flour. Molly walked in the kitchen just as mom was putting two trays of cookies in the oven. Milly was already in the kitchen. Mom had given her a cookie from the first batch she made. This was the best time of year and Molly had the best family ever. Mom would bake straight through till Thanksgiving. They'd get to sample all the treats as they came out of the oven. Life didn't get much better than this.

Cheering up Freddy

Dad helped Mom for awhile and then he went in his office to do some paperwork. Molly noticed he had a plate full of cookies in his hand. She just knew he was going to eat every last one of them. Molly decided to go in and see what Freddy was up to. He had been very quiet this morning because of the unfortunate incident when he slept through the news update on the fire. Molly thought there was a possibility that she could make him feel better. Mom had the fireplace going and the living room was cozy and warm. Freddy was floating near the top of his bowl. He was watching the news but it didn't look like his heart was in it. His first assignment and he had messed up. Molly sat down on the couch and talked to Freddy for awhile. She brought him up to speed on the fire. She told him about being able to see the sky from inside the building. By the time she was done she'd managed to perk up Freddy's interest and he was swimming around his bowl as care free as ever. Of course he did have one eye on the television screen at all times. He was back to his old self and felt his confidence returning. It was imperative that he remain diligent at all times.

The Fire Marshal's report

At three o'clock the call that Dad had been waiting for came in. The Fire Marshal called to say that their investigation was complete and everything pointed toward arson. The investigators had found an empty gas can behind the building. Someone had poured gasoline inside and outside of the building. Then they'd used a match to start the fire. The question of the day was why would someone want the building to go up in flames? Dad did have some suspicions, but he didn't want to share them with anyone until he had proof to backup what he was thinking.

Thinking about a plan of action

Dad opened his office door and walked out in the hallway. He wanted to inform the team of the latest development in the case. As he walked by the living room he heard Molly talking to Freddy. He walked into the room and shared what he knew with both of them. After Dad had reported what the Fire Marshal said he went back into the kitchen to help Mom with her holiday baking. Molly waited till she heard Dad talking to Mom and then picked up the phone and called Robert. As soon as Robert heard the news he said he'd be right over to talk about a plan. Molly watched out the front window until Robert walked up the steps. She opened the front door and when Robert came in Freddy told him to wipe his paws. He was covered in snow. Robert was excited to get down to business. It was so cold outside that it would be nice to sit around the fire and come up with a plan of action to bring down the bad guys.

Robert had a plan

Robert came up with a plan that just might work. He wanted to go to the curator's house and get inside to look for some clues. Molly knew they didn't have a search warrant and they'd be breaking the law but that was really beside the point. They seriously needed to find out what was going on. There would be nobody that would suspect two dogs. If they were going to follow Robert's plan they wouldn't be able to involve Dad. He'd never go along with it. Molly quietly entered Dad's office and when she knew for sure the coast was clear she motioned for Robert to follow her. Then she quietly shut the door.

Molly searches the internet

They needed an address for the curator. It didn't take too long to find it. The internet was truly a blessing at times like this. It turns out the curator didn't live far from the museum. Robert said they were going to have to go at night. Molly had overheard the curator tell Dad that he taught history classes at the community college in the evening. Molly had an idea that she thought would work. They needed a ride because it was very cold and snowy outside. They could ask Dad to take them to the library and they could go in the front door and out the back door. They would then walk to the curator's house. Robert liked the plan. He thought it just might work.

"Molly sat down on the couch and talked to Freddy for awhile."

I have a feeling that animals can talk to each other like this too, but then again Molly is really a gifted "dog", she even knows how to use the internet.

Amusing with a touch of real meaning too Nancy, congrats on another star page too.

The beauty is Molly and Robert do not need a search warrant because, for all practical purposes, they are mere dogs!

They may look innocent but what a punch they deliver when it matters to nail the baddies! Nothing escapes their attention.

Lovely story Nancy, thanks - siva

Stella, thank you so much for the wonderful comment. I'm so thankful that you like my stories. I do try to write good wholesome stories for the family. We all love animals and I do believe they communicate with us in their own way. I like to make people smile and always write stories that children can read right along with their parents. I think children love Molly. My gift to the world is the Dynamic Duo. There are so many words written in the world that are not good for children to see but my stories are lighthearted and they do have lessons in them. Thank you so much for continuing to follow Molly from chapter to chapter. You are truly the best. Smiles to you and Blessings too!

Interesting story! You have so much talent as a writer! I always felt that my animals could somehow communicate with one another too!

It is good to have a little fiction in ones life to keep us from becoming so preoccupied about all the events in this troubled world today!! I know that all the bad that exists now with not last forever because our final destination is with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!

Sherri, thanks for the smile this morning. Can you just imagine Freddy's life but unfortunately he's been stressing himself out about falling asleep on the job. Thankfully Molly was able to talk him out of it. I love Christmas cookies too! If you lived close I'd share. I will be making cookies every day until Thanksgiving and then I share with everybody. Smiles to you today and always!
