The Dynamic Duo and the team are beginning a new story at the start of winter. They live in a suburb of New Jersey and winters can be brutal. The team is preparing for the long winter months. Their last case was successful and they are hoping for a rest before another case presents itself.

A very cold morning

Milly woke up late. It was so warm and cozy under her blankets. When it got really cold she always slept in bed with Mom and Dad. Milly peaked her head out from under the cozy blanket and looked around the room. There was no sign of anyone in the room. She wondered where everyone went. She was sure they were all going to sleep in this morning. Milly climbed down off the bed and went to look out the window. The weather pattern had showed snow but she didn't expect to see the trees blowing in the wind and ice on the limbs. It looked cold and dreary outside. There was no sign of the sun. For one minute Milly thought about climbing back into bed but then again she could smell something good cooking in the kitchen. She was going to investigate.

Snow had settled everywhere

When Milly got to the first floor she went to the front window and looked outside. Just as she had thought there was snow everywhere. Robert's house was covered in snow. One thing was for sure fall was gone and winter was here. Milly saw no sign of Molly or Dad for that matter. She walked into the kitchen and saw Mom working over the stove. Mom could make the best food for breakfast. Milly loved eating breakfast on a cold day. She could hear her tummy rumble and that meant she was hungry.

Breakfast on a cold day

Mom placed hot biscuits on the kitchen counter. She placed the sausage on a hot plate and was working on some eggs. Milly got up on the kitchen chair and watched mom prepare breakfast for everyone. She could hear the wind outside and gave a little prayer of thanks that she was inside warm and safe. She never missed a chance to give thanks for all the gifts that she received each and every day. There were so many animals that suffered during the winter months. Dad must be coming back soon because mom was making lots of food. As soon as Milly had that thought she heard the front door open and Dad walk in. She could feel the cold in the air until he shut the door. Molly was with Dad and she was shivering. Mom was going to have to get their winter coats out of the attic if the snow was here to stay. Dad was carrying something but Milly didn't know what it was. The look on Molly's face told Milly that it was definitely a surprise of some sort.

A new addition to the family

Dad placed something on the counter and then stepped aside. It was a gold fish. The fish was in a little glass bowl. Mom put down her kitchen towel and walked over to see the new member of the family. Molly told everyone that the fish was known as Freddy at the pet store. Mom said that she didn't have fish food. Dad pulled a small box out of his pocket and placed it on the counter. Mom smiled because Dad thought of everything. Milly wasn't so sure about this new member of the family but Molly seemed happy about the new addition.

Getting acquainted

After breakfast everybody went to the family room. Dad had the fire going in the fireplace and it was warm. Dad carried the small fish bowl and Freddy downstairs and placed Freddy and his bowl on the coffee table. Dad turned on the television and the midmorning news was playing. The first thing that Molly noticed was that Freddy loved the news. He listened to every word being reported. As Molly was observing what was going on she had and idea. It was like a light bulb being turned on in her head. If they invited Freddy to be part of the team he could keep them updated on the news around town. That could be an asset to everyone. Molly went to call Robert and see what he thought about Molly's idea.

Jessica, thank you so much for the wonderful comment. I'm glad that you like the new story. I think a winter background will make for a very interesting story. I live in the northeast where it can get really cold so I'm familiar with what the team will endure during the winter months. Smiles to you today and always.

Promising beginning to a new adventure, thanks Nancy.

Freddy can hear news all day long but may not be able to venture out. Freddy seems to be one hell of an addition to the family and good that other team members are going to embrace him.

The baddies better watch out and turn over a new leaf! siva

Stella, thank you so much for beginning this new story with me. I'm so happy that you like it. I thought Freddy would be a good addition to the team. It always helps to have someone at home base that knows what's going on. I thought since Freddy likes the news he will be perfect. He can swim around in his home listening to all the latest news. I'm especially looking forward to writing this story because I simply love winter photos. It gets really cold where we live and I'm very familiar with the precautions that must be taken with the animals. It will add some excitement to the story. You are the best! Thank you for being my friend and blessings to you too!

Siva, thank you so much for the awesome comment. I always love seeing your comments. They actually give me ideas and I thank you for that. I think Freddy will be a great addition to the team and to the family. You are right he won't be able to venture outside but he can let the team know what's going on around town. They were fortunate to find a fish that loves the news. That is simply priceless. Smiles to you today and always!

Mark, thank you so much for the moderation. You are the best. I had to smile when I read Brenda's article because we were both thinking about animals and the very cold weather that will soon be coming. Smiles to you and Brenda today and always!

Congrats on making "star page." No surprise there, but to heck with cold winter mornings! That breakfast of hot biscuits and sausage is where you can find me.

Shamarie, thank you so much for the great comment. I like Freddy too! If he joins the team there will be a total of 13 members. I'm so glad you like this new story. I think it will be fun to write the story during the winter months. Winter is a beautiful time of year but it's very cold too. I know that you know that because you live in New York. I think New York and Cleveland have similar weather. Smiles to you today and always!

New Jersey temperature in winter is nothing compared to Canada and even the Northern United States such as Vermont and Maine

Carol, thanks for the comment. I know it gets cold in Canada. I have a friend that lives there and I just can't imagine winters like that. In 1994 we had one of the worst winters ever. It was so cold that I spent all my time worrying if the furnace would keep running. I had 3 children at home and the temperatures were well below 0. Before winter starts I stock my two pantries and my freezers are also stocked. We have two plus a generator just in case the electric goes out. We bring in all the supplies for our fireplace and make sure the boiler is working. We just had new hot water pipes put in the living room and dining room. We've got electric heaters too just in case. Blizzards come out of nowhere and stay for awhile. We also have flashlights, batteries, candles and water. Hopefully we are prepared. I hope you stay warm this winter.
