The Fateful Friday

On that fateful Friday many failed in what they ought to have done. Yet, God in His infinitely powerful kindness changed that saddest day into the Good Friday for me.

Betwixt Sky and Land

Oh! How they fell on that fateful Friday,
When on a wood a just man did they raise.
Failed to do what was ought to them,
All those on high pedestals of praise.

Pontius Pilatus who ruled over Palestine,
Was overpowered by priests and a crowd;
And bloodthirsty shouts of ‘Crucify him’,
Rising before him insane and loud.

Nothing fit for death he found in the man,
But gave him up to them to be killed.
A mocker y of the Roman justice it was,
When it fell flat how could it be filled?

He washed his hands before all and said,
“Of this just man’s blood, I’m innocent”
He wriggled out of the sticky situation
But in the crucifixion his hands he lent

Priests who should lead the ignorant people--
To the Lord God, that day led them astray;
Saying, ‘Let his blood be upon us and--
On our children tomorrow and this day.’

Herod, the king of Galilee in the north,
Clowned in the capital, a fabulous fool.
Desiring the King of Kings to entertain him,
Like his slaves he wanted him as a tool.

Judas betrayed his Master with a cloaked kiss,
Peter did it in his timid denials thrice.
Disciples who swore to follow till the end,
Fled on the dark day of betrayal and vice.

He stood for the poor and the lowly weak,
Flocks of lambs, they could not with him stand.
Alone did he go to suffer, alone to hang;
Joining God and man, betwixt sky and land.

Oh! How they fell on that saddest Friday!
When they raised a just man on the wood
Because of his wounds I find myself healed
Perhaps that’s the reason it’s called good.
