"The Greatness of a Nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way it treats its animals". M. Gandhi.

"I am in favour of animal rights as well as human rights, that is the way of the whole human being". Lincoln..

The Life of the Galgo.

Gentle Greyhounds, they know a miserable life
These Spanish Greyhounds condemned to pain
Are used as hunting tools until they die
A vicious death by the hands of man.

The Galgos are kept in darkened sheds,
Deprived of care, the worst suffering starts
Hunting season ends, they are condemned,
Their eyes reflect their broken hearts.

The Death of the Galgo

They are cast away, no mercy in sight,
Unwanted, to die a horrible death,
Massacre reaches its dreadful height
The gentle greyhound has no respite.

Galgueros have no care for these hounds
They string them up to a tree by wire.
The Galgo hangs, feet just touching ground,
Exhausted, suffering, they collapse and die.

Forgive Us!

May The Lord spare us for inflicting death
On a unborn child and creatures of this Earth
How can we, the human being, deserve to live
Our lives on this Earth, will God forgive.

Where is the conscience of our fellow man
We were not put on Earth to inflict pain.
Where will we ever find love and care
Are our hearts rotten, no compassion to spare

There is No Forgiveness!

We rush on to our inevitable doom
The Lord will know the innocent man
Or the man who sought to be released
From evil before his life has ceased.

My words are from an honest heart
My stars no doubt already far-flung
How can that mean an iota to me
When a Baby is killed or a Galgo hung.

People who do not live with animals have a hard time understanding just how intimate and close (and like a human relationship) the relationship can be between a human and an animal ...

I believe we will be made to suffer (and enjoy the love too) for deeds done by us wilfully here. There should be comeuppance for real justice to be served in the end. There is no excuse to cause another injury even through words. I am with you hundred percent, dear Ivy. What compassion! - siva

I only know of one man that raises dogs just for hunting and I promise you, they are well taken care of and loved. Thank you for sharing.:)

Why is the man hunting? Why is he using dogs to kill another animal? Why can't the hunted animal be "taken care of" by allowing it to live.

What heart-felt prose, and very well written. The suffering has got to stop.

This is really a topic for an article, if you ever have the time to write an article on this, I am sure it would do well.
