The Homeless

There are people that live in the street and everyday they cry out for help.Do you ignore them? Or do you try to help?

The Homeless

There's a man on the streets and he's hungry.
Will you give him something to eat?
Spare change or maybe a dollar
or will you pretend that you can't even see.
Maybe if you could just smile at him
or simply offer a friendly word
rather than walking briskly by,
because you cannot be disturbed.
That man in the street that you can't see
is just like you and I.
He's one of God's children too,
and once he was somebody's child.
Despite his clothes being dirty
he's got a heart and soul.
For the sake of doing what's right by him
we all must play our role.
We cannot keep on walking by
pretending we cannot see
our fellow brother crying out,
and sleeping on the streets.
Anything could happen,
and you could be just like him.
The separation between rich and poor
is an invisible line that's thin.
It doesn't mean that you're any better
to be a have when he has not.
Where is your human compassion,
or have you just forgot?
Is it that you can only use it
for saving cute abandoned puppies?
Or maybe you just cant seem to care
because you think that he's a druggie,
and that he simply must've done
all this to himself.
Perhaps he did, you'll never know.
Excuses for yourself.
Excuses not to give a damn.
Excuses are all just lies.
Maybe you'll use these same excuses
when Jesus asks you why.
Why you chose to continue walking
ignoring the homeless guy
when he held out his hand to you for help
an Angel in disguise.

Yes, they test us, give us an opportunity to show compassion. I have retraced steps to chip in at times.

Thanks for this heartfelt poem - siva

Thank you Siva! If you do it for yourself or for your Creator or whatever belief system that you have in place I think that deep inside you should do it because it just feels right. I hate to see people suffer. And I never want to become immune to that. Sometimes you have to look at people as if they are children because we all once were. I find that helps me to relate better to others. And yes there are those that will take advantage but if you give with kindness and compassion then I feel your reward will be greater.

Your response to my comments make me share this.

There was a very rich but conceited man and also his neighbor, a poor farmer. It so happened both died at the same time and met at the Pearly Gates. The poor farmer was welcomed first and the rich man kicked up such a fuss to draw the attention of St Peter himself, who consoled the rich man - there is a reason to everything. You did pray but the poor farmer did too while at work. You did charity but your neighbor did till it hurt his pocket! siva

Thank you for this my friend. You are right and I too like to see such people as little children and think of the mother who loved them so much. I like to help others whether it's the homeless, the lonely, or someone who have somehow lost their way. We all need someone in our lives and we all need help in one way or another. Looking forward to reading more of your work. Blessings.

make them work make them feel that they weren't born beggars but silly ones still exist ....who give alms for free...
why shouldn't they work for dollars any
god did not make beggars or slaves
... its human tendency to enslave or beg ...
kick them where they'd hate.. some beggars are richer than poets here ...
have you come a begging my dear ...
don't force complacency will ye
.. empathy is okay
..but not sympathy
..they must all work to make a living ...
blasphemy we alone are promoting

..in many countries the poorest of poor became the country's best leaders ..
so have no sympathy or apathy or empathy..
or any ...thy knd
..make them worthy of themselves will help them ye?
