February 4th is the Celebration of 'National Libraries Day'. This is my humble tribute to Libraries everywhere.
Long may you continue to educate and inspire the love of the written word in every Child and Adult who walks through your doors..

The Library.. National Libraries Day Celebration.

'As a teenager, some of my happiest hours were spent in my local Library...It was where my love for the written word was born and raised, where flights of fancy carried me away on print-stained wings... It was the beginning of a love affair that has never faded in time ...My Poetic Tribute to Libraries everywhere'. Songbird B.

I step within your hallowed halls,
where footfalls hush on covered floor..
And silence reigns, as if a mantle,
enshrouds, as I pass through your door..

My Place Of Sanctuary..

Oh so many happy hours, as once a child,
I'd lose myself in your sturdy embrace..
Time would stop, have little meaning..
Reverential respect, all gave this place..

Where people walk, their voices hushed,
and shelves of books in endless reams..
Within this room, this Sanctuary..
Great Works of many Writers, dream..

Letting Words Come To Life..

Caress a spine and feel it speak...
The words now wait to be released..
Open, expose the darkened print..
The well thumbed book, now aged and creased.

And lose yourself within the many
volumes of inspired words...
Longing once more to live again..
To raise their voice, once more be heard..

Oh Hallowed Halls of Creativity...

Words surround you, cajole you, bind you..
whisper in your ear and mind..
Patiently wait to be discovered..
Their treasure trove of endless finds.

To stand within this hallowed building,
to immerse yourself in creativity..
Such pleasure lies there... Waiting for you..
Once you step inside a Library..

Thank you, Songbird. A wonderful page and congratulations on the Star. My dear father made a one time visit to our local library with a book he had found in our house. He was escorted to the Chief Librarian's office and threatened with prosecution for stealing a book! I have always found libraries to be rather intimidating, we have to whisper.....hush!

I have always just love, love, love the library. I can still get lost in one to this day. Your work of art spoke to true to how I too feel about these great places and those that run them. Love it! I just love the photos and the writing, out standing, as always. As always hon, thank you for sharing.:)

A fitting tribute to the library, Bev. I still love and prefer the smell of books in that hollowed cocoon. May the library, which changed the world and contributed in no small way to the development of the internet, survive in this modern age, and the bookstores with it! Congrats on your STAR page, my dear friend! Hugs!

I know how difficult it is for Libraries to survive in our modern world, with all the instant technology at our fingertips nowadays, but I hope that they will dear Buzz..Hugs to you too \0/xxx

What a lovely poem Bev I missed this one. Congratulations too on achieving another star page for your work too. I used to get books out from the library to read but I must admit to reading more articles of interest to me on the Internet now...we need to use the libraries as much as we can though otherwise they may disappear....

We do indeed need to use them Richard, or they could well be taken away from us.. As most things, we never appreciate what we have until it is no more.. Thank you so much for your post and your support which means so much to me..\0/x

It was always a hallowed place for me and even now despite modernity that brings information into our homes. I get a special feeling of awe as soon as I step in and become part of its setting! Thanks Songbird for re-enforcing my belief that our feelings are same wherever we are! siva

Such a beautiful poem, Bev. Some of my best memories are of finding a special book at our local library as a child. You could find me there almost every day after school. Sadly, many libraries here in the U.S. are shutting down due to lack of funds. Thanks to this recession.. Wonderful star page. Thank you, my friend.

"It was where my love for the written word was born and raised, where flights of fancy carried me away on print-stained wings... It was the beginning of a love affair that has never faded in time".

You wrote these words, as if from my life-- what I mean is that "it's so true of any dreamer who wanted to become a writer/poet while sitting and browsing through the treasuries of libraries"
