The Missing Flowers and The Gift

It pains my heart to see that the flowers of my garden disappear often. My consolation is that they find a place at the feet of a god or goddess.

Flowers and Gifts

Where Are the Flowers Gone

Where are the flowers gone
From my flower garden?
They were here only last evening.
Has a stray goat eaten them up
Or a holy cow wandering the village paths?
Was it an over-active dog
Chasing a rat?
Was there a storm last night?
Not a howling noise did I hear.
Had it been a storm,
Other signatures of the bully
Would be seen scattered here and there

As I went for a walk next morning
I saw a devotee with a small basket.
She was pulling a branch to her
With a long hooked stick
And plucking flowers
Obviously from someone else’s garden
She was collecting flowers in the basket
For her god or goddess
I realized in a flash
The fate of the flowers of my garden
They have been privileged to touch
The feet of a deity

But my gardener heart still complains,
“Could not the woman have asked for flowers?”
If she had, I would have gladly given her
All the flowers she wanted
Flowers tied with my little prayers
And my humble devotion.

The Gift

I unwrapped it with joy
Relishing every moment
Enjoying every breeze of warmth
Of being loved.

I got the gift one day
Yet I get it every day
It’s a gift ever new, ever loving
Ever gladdening

The gift I’ve not kept away
I’ve enshrined it in the sanctuary
Of my innermost being
It lives with me in my breath.

The gift that blesses me
Inspires and strengthens me
Leads and guides me
The gift called Emmanuel

The gift brought to me
On a December Day
By an eternal Santa Claus
The divine gift most precious

I watched the woman from afar,
Collecting all those flowers.
Followed one day by car,
Amidst torrential showers.

She had gone to this lonely grave,
Which was well kept but out of sight.
Sat out there and alone she prayed,
Crying out there all night.

She was drenched in the pouring rain,
I just observed silently from the car.
She did everything including clean the grave,
And aligned each corner with the flower.

She just bent down and laid her head,
Upon that stone cold rock.
Weeping loudly as everyone fled,
As the two clouds in fury knocked.

I sat there waiting could take no more,
I just ran with a raincoat spare.
I covered and I held her tight,
She just looked on but didn't care.

That is a child who laid his life,
Without batting an eyelid that night.
He was walking and saw the knife,
And put up a brave fought fight.

They were attacking me to rob my ware,
He fought them all without fear.
All of them fled and just everywhere,
He collapsed and just shed a tear.

He was unable to speak to me,
They had but slit his neck.
But he looked on and tears pour from eyes,
I saw a shiny glittering speck.

It was a diamond ring her gave her heart,
He just showed name engraved.
He left me holding his lifeless form,
I am the old lady whom he saved.

The cops and medics came our way,
He had no identification when he died.
All he had was this flower in hand,
Saying I love you will you be my wife.

His name was Michael that is all I know,
His lady name was addressed as Annie.
His laboured death was painful and slow,
They had severed his artery.

I don't know where to find his wife,
To tell her I am sorry for her loss.
He was going home to her on that day,
And I held on to his ring and flowers.

Show me the ring let me see the inscribe,
Maybe I could you now help.
I pulled it just as well to describe,
His eyes widened as big as hell.

For inscribed on it was his sister's name,
He looked at her with tears in eyes.
He held the old lady tight and hard,
They bought burst into loud cries.

He's my sisters' friend who loved her more,
But had kept it all hidden in heart.
I knew of this feeling and told him same,
Get a ring and propose to her in part.

I had no idea why he never came back,
But that was three years ago this day.
He went away saying wait for me,
They even rummaged the place of stay.

Now she is married expecting child,
She still wonders about him in heart.
Tears pour when she hears the name,
He is near yet far apart.

I saw the flowers similar at a house,
I used to pluck them and come here each day.
Pay my tribute and walk in love,
Back to my place of stay.

I waited to hear the news around,
She was just nowhere to be seen.
That is when I interred him to the ground,
And in marble stones with green.

I am the owner of that place,
I wondered why you took my flowers.
I decided to follow you today,
Amidst torrential showers.

I now see who you led me to,
My sisters own long lost friend.
He just cried saying I never knew,
You were doing this for my sisters would have been husband.

With that he gather the lady and took her home,
To Michael's lost lady love.
Who was pregnant and in full bloom,
With husband looking from Above.

I have a gift she said with choked voice,
Its a ring I was given by a man.
He had saved my life when heard noise,
But was killed by the robbing clan.

He just cried and gave me this,
With flowers similar to these.
I want you to now have it miss,
Its the guilt in my heart's sweet release.

With that she handed the ring and card,
That told the tale that wrenched heart.
She had waited for this the whole year long,
It came when they now far apart.

He broke her heart in the day,
By going without saying a word.
It was the moment she saw the way,
It was the best story they ever heard.
