A Lion was getting feeble and too old to hunt so he devised a plan to get food to come to him. The Lion pretended he was sick and had other animals come visit him. When they approached near enough the Lion snatched them up and ate them. his is a poem based on this story.

The Old Lion

A Lion now was just too old
to hunt for lively prey
he couldn’t run the way he could
as young cats do today
he had to think of some bold plan
to coax food next to him
and as he thought and pondered
this idea formed within

He lay real still inside his den
pretending to be sick
others came to see him
unaware this was a trick
when smaller animals came in reach
the Lion pounced upon them
he ate the varmints for his meal
but now the trick was common

One day a Red Fox came along
to visit with the Lion
but kept his distance from the den
this story he’s not buyin’
“I’m very sick” the Lion said
“won’t you come in awhile”?
“I’d love to have you visit me”
and flashed a charming smile

“Thank you” said the Fox, but “no
I cannot come inside
all tracks point towards your den
but no tracks lead outside
I cannot take a chance you see
In my cunning I take pride
and if I venture in your den
I’ll be committing suicide.”
