The Old Tree

This poem is a meditation that I experienced while in nature in the Beautiful state of Oregon,USA.

The Old Tree

I can feel the old tree breath
Slow and deep and long
The air in my lungs fills me.
The sun licks my skin
So warm
So soft
The sound of the birds fills my ears
With the song of nature.
As I sit and BECOME ONE with the Mother Earth and Father Sky
And part of the Old tree beneath me.

A note on short poems

Some poems are quite short, for instance, a haiku is rarely 500 characters, as required by Wikinut. So I have added this short note, on short poems, to achieve the necessary 500 characters as required. Thank you for reading this poem. Short poems can be worthwhile and fun to read. Creating a note about short notes should allow me to express myself in short form, shortly. Do you agree?

Imagine This:100 trees,60 of them indigenous. 40 of them lovingly planted by American pioneers settling in this country, South Africa in 1850, the North's after which the suburb Northdene is named, The oldest of the indigenous trees, a grandma of 700 years with a girth of 10 meters... all in the process of being chopped down during the course of the past 5 months. We rent the property from a church group, The Old Apostolic Church. They have given a unscrupulous developer/destroyer, Carte- Blanche to do his foul deeds. I have personally contacted the officials ie. police, fire department, parks and recreation as well as, you are not going to believe this! 35 green related N.G.O.'s not one of them were the least bit interested. We even had a city Councillor, whose port folio has to do with the protection of the flora and fauna of the city. (We have the phone records to show.) She came out to the so called heritage site, (homestead built in 1902) The property being the site where all this mayhem was taking place, right in front of her very eyes. Her only comment was; " as long as the trees are growing on private property, owners can chop them down in South Africa." We were utterly dismayed! A family of eagles, some owls and several other bird species have left or died. We managed to save a few chicks, unfortunately many others weren't so lucky, judging by the many nests, some with eggs, all lying around. I know this nothing compared to Tsunamis etc. but we will be haunted by this destruction because of the whims of one man. I have a blog where I have written about and included pics as well, if you would like to visit the site here is the link: http://Bonavista.blogspot.com/
Note: the site is being upgraded constantly so please revisit, Thanks, for your poem

Thank you so much for you story. Sad as it may be, some people do make their own choices with what seems to little thought of the consequences. Did they think of the wild life? I think not. They will reap as they sow.

Hello MAnature, suddenly silence, no chainsaws today, no bulldozers. Only quiet, birdsong and a luscious green carpet of emerald green thee leaf clover, and butterflies!

This is really good. I spend a great deal of time observing and writing about the way natural elements make me feel. It's good to see someone else gets it. :)
