The Origin of "SELFIE" (Narcissist Photos) in the World

The rising of narcissistic photo (Selfie) is now happening in world wide becomes a trend that is very popular, but do you know that what is Selfie? How it is history and where the origins of the word Selfie (narcissistic photo) come from? Perhaps some of us herein do not knowing about. So, let’s read a piece of article about then we are understand and also as we are not just bandwagon of its trends.

Self-Portrait (Narcissistic Photo)

Narcissist Photos (English: "selfie") is a kind of self-portrait photos taken by yourself with a digital camera or a mobile phone camera and or something like. The Narcissist Photos often associated with narcissism, especially in social networks. As I quote from wikipedia.

In Korean entertainment industry, the term of used is "Selca" (abbreviation for Self Camera). A pose used generally casual, and taken with a camera that is directed to yourself, or it could be through a mirror. The object is usually only a photographer or a few people who can be reached by focusing the camera. The Narcissist Photos involving to several people called the "Narcissist Photo Group".

Rusia and Australia

Taking pictures of yourself has been made since the advent of the Kodak Brownie Box camera in 1900. This method is usually done through a mirror. Princess of Russia Imperial, "Anastasia Nikolaevna", who was one of the first known teen taking pictures of herself in the mirror to be sent to her in 1914. In a letter sent with a photo, she wrote: "I took this photo using a mirror. It is difficult and my hands tremble"

Successful entered to Oxford Dictionary and this origins word of 'Selfie'
In the last 2013, the word of Selfie officially listed on the Oxford English Dictionary online version, and on November 2013, the Oxford Dictionary crowned this word as the ”Word of the Year in 2013”, it was states that this word is derived from Australia.

ABC Online & Oxford English Dictionary

The first time to use of a word Selfie occurred in 2002. The word first appeared on an Internet forum Australia (ABC Online) on September 13rd, 2002. The word of "Selfie" which lately increasingly widespread turns has entered a vocabulary of the Oxford English Dictionary. Language researches conducted by Oxford Dictionaries editors reveal that the word of selfie frequency of use in English has increased 17,000% over the past year.

The word "Selfie" could actually be traced back to 2002, when it was used in an online forum Australia on September 13, 2012, as following:

"Um, drunk at mates 21st, I tripped and landed offer first lip (with front teeth coming a very close second) on a set of steps. I had a hole about 1cm long right through my bottom lip. And sorry about the focus, it was a selfie."

Ostentatiously on Sosmed Sites

Judy Pearsall, "Editorial Director Oxford Dictionaries" explain the evolution of the word selfie aided by social media sites to popularizing it. In 2004 appearance some photos on Flickr with the sign of "Selfie", but its use was not widespread until in 2012 the word began to be used in the mainstream media only.

"In the beginning, usually often spelled with the suffix-y, but this time using a suffix-ie and it is very important because changing the word which basically refers to the narcissistic into something rather more attractive". He said as quoted by Business from the official site Oxford Dictionary, on the last March, 2014.

Judy added that English-Australian has a tendency to change the words, for example, the word Barbecue into Barbie, and then some words said Firie for Firefighter and Tinnie for Beer. "It is supporting evidence that Selfie indeed come from Australia," he said.
