The need of the hour is a change in our lifestyle and focus on the right priorities. Whatever progress we make in scientific and technological fields will prove of little value if we do not have the basic for a fulfilling life - Peace of Mind. That requires an awareness of what motivates our thinking and actions.

Our Lifestyle

We come into this world fully covered – I mean, we camouflage our vital part that remains hidden all our life- our mind, what we think. As babies, we show our emotions freely but as grow up we tend to hide them except from our dear ones and that also varies from time to time. We become guarded mainly due to past experiences as words and thoughts freely expressed can give us, and others, grief – mostly unintended. I tend to ignore what others say when my intentions are clear and genuine. The world is such everyone judges others by looks and words, and not by deeds. So hypocrisy is allowed free rein. However, peace of mind should be our fixed asset that comes to our rescue putting others in their place. And to find peace of mind, wealth need not play a part – in fact, too much of it proves a stumbling block as it attracts the wrong kind!

Our daily lives are full of ups and downs – it is a seesaw for most. At the extreme, agony and ecstasy are the opposite sides of the same coin. To find balance in life is the tricky part as otherwise our life will be stressful leading to health issues. We have own limits but some do revel in a life of adventure, extreme, and cannot even contemplate one otherwise! They are the exceptions, of course, and at most we can nibble and taste what it is like and soon enough we reach our limits. Most yearn for peace of mind to pursue interests closer to our hearts that are mundane – family and work-life balance. Then pursue our passion for the add-on for a fulfilling and meaningful life.

Change Course - Collectively

Our world is full of strife for the simple reason we refuse to give an inch without a fight – forgetting whether even the miles are worth fighting for! The real issues that prove intractable are poverty, self-sustainable lifestyle, health, coexistence based on give and take. It is easier to destroy than to build and our leaders tend to highlight issues that are of no real concern to the majority that elect them and hope against hope for better times. Patriotism cannot be questioned but yet I believe it is better to look at a world sans borders as our problems are not confined within countries. The Mayan Calendar hullabaloo united us for a day but it is past us now – history! How to find peace of mind – my thoughts below:

Time for fresh thinking: Our present ways bring us grief time and again. It just works at cross purposes to pit one group against another for us to lose the plot to improve our general well-being and sustainable future. We have to agree we received a world well stocked with essentials and much more, but are we not over-exploiting it, living beyond our means? We live with a guilty conscience, knowingly or unknowingly, of selfish pursuits that bring us grief and bad karma. And for people like me, we pass on some of it to our progeny! We know what to do, if not, take a deep breath and ponder, but individually and collectively we ignore the basics.

One way street to doom: What for all the armaments; to be used against whom? There are going to be many super powers, at least aspirants. Any war between them will make this world uninhabitable. To say - we are responsible and you are not, will not hold water. Pride is universal and also goes before a fall! When every country and every belief professes peace, why not find common ground? Why brush away such thoughts as impractical? Either we do it now or later, or we opt to perish due to our stupidity. Peace is worth fighting for and is much cheaper than war that proves nothing in the end except our history of violence repeating itself with a vengeance due to our “progress”.

Tackling issues as one: Unity in tackling our basic issues is paramount. Competition of the wrong kind will add to our woes. Self- sufficiency through renewable energy is one area that comes readily to mind. We are almost there but vested interests are proving a stumbling block. Rather than subsidizing polluting fossil fuel, renewable energy through Solar, Wind, Wave, and Geo-thermal need encouragement as they benefit all. We are adding to our stress due to a vast majority depending on a tiny minority for basic energy needs. We can avoid transportation costs that also add to pollution. Again, our wrong priorities and treating the symptoms rather than the disease hold us back from our true potential.

Individual Choices

We need all round cooperation for tackling basic issues as detailed above. Individually, we can live within our means and potential; pushing our envelope to the extent possible but not beyond reason! I try to keep reality close to my thinking and also our mortality. We should be ever ready to pass on the baton to younger folks with better legs! To be ever ready to let go and not compete endlessly with them who have more time-frame to look forward to. Our priorities and pursuits should undergo subtle changes especially when the aged is no more considered repository of wisdom! Peace of mind does not come with wealth – thank you very much from the bottom of my heart – but through contentment and doing our best. Living to benefit others is the most fulfilling way as far as I have understood after seeing some pursue their passion only to realize too late they have taken the wrong route!

Our Time Is Now

The real challenge is how to change course? And to quote Einstein – insanity is doing the same thing again and again and expecting different results. Our present lifestyle from top to bottom is only leading to stress and little progress unless we mean it in terms of glitzier gadgets that are soon out of date. Peace of mind will remain a distant dream unless we abide by the prerequisite that has stood the test of time. We all will find peace of mind when we fine tune our lifestyle and keeping it under the radar all the time. We have seen it all and our history is full of all types of lessons and it is time for us to take the next vital step to free mankind from self-imposed prison of working against each other. When we work towards Peace of Mind, the rest of the journey becomes seamless!

Sivaramakrishnan A, your article is excellent!

You have beautifully captured the essence of that which formulates as "life" upon this planet.

Now, the next step comprises of the solution, which we do have in detail, but for now must keep from the people until ones such as yourself, Buzz, ourselves, and the commanders with the assistance of others, guide the citizens of this world forward toward that goal.

However, one blueprint we have allowed for the internet but after we gave it to Yemen, it, like Afghanistan and Iraq were brutally attacked by the money lords.

We promise to never give up because the people must become ready to evacuate, and whether they are relocated upon other more dignified worlds which have their own paradisaical system in place or not, entirely will depend upon the individual.

We are here to give them that chance.

Thanks Uthrania for your take; most welcome. We have come thus far, but are we really progressing or just while away our time filling it with pastimes that make our lives a fantasy! I see around me people cocooned with gadgets and little else following lives of celebrities. They are slowly getting distanced from daily realities. Life should be much more meaningful and enriched through our own efforts and enjoyment in coexistence. I feel we are increasingly becoming digits and robots and also more disillusioned. We can know the cost of anything at the touch of a button but the value of nothing, especially those that matter like family and peace of mind ,to be comfortable within own skins. siva, these people have all had countless lifestreams in which to ready themselves and progress upward.

What you see in those around you is three-fold:

1. they have never placed priorities of the soul first.

2. they have been taken up by a master plan which leads the people away from finding their heritage back with the "stars."

3. their lives have become so difficult that they partake in frivolous activity in order to escape their misery.

It is fine to relax with a small enjoyment, but when that frivolous activity takes up the time which the soul must use for his/her progression then this is where they will find it most difficult to get off the "wheel," so to speak and move on to better and more dignified worlds.

In text left behind by those who came before, most text have been so tampered with, that not even the learned ones of today knew what their prophets were speaking of.

We have come back to rectify this, and the words given once will be given again for the last time.

Interesting thoughts and comments, Uthrania. Technology for its own sake - is making us drift away from the reality of life. We tend to forget our duties and do not even know what they are especially when nobody listens to anyone who talks sense. And our attention span is getting reduced to fleeting moments! We are on an escapism mode! Do we need outside help, with price to pay, or just listen to inner voice that has served me well over the years? Yes, we forget the existence of the soul - the body is the whole and soul now! siva

When technology is utilized properly, it allows (upon other worlds more advanced than this one is in evolutionary growth) the people, irrespective of where they live or what they do for their contribution into society, more time to pursue a talent which they may wish to cultivate, or to take trips (vacations) to other inhabited worlds which to them is no different than traveling from continent to continent upon this world.

It is such a pleasure in speaking to you, sivi.

Look forward to speaking with you on the morrow. Good night.

Thanks again Uthrania for your input. Great journey ahead and we haven't seen anything as yet - these thoughts excite anyone! We can cover our planet now, at least the hospitable part. We are constrained more by restrictions created by us. Technology has freed us a lot and we have to give credit where due but let it not obscure humanity from the binding factor - the time to love near and dear. Your thoughts are out of the ordinary and indeed I thank Buzz, for what else, for creating a Buzz here! siva

Siva my dear friend , I have come to add my two penny worth as we say , but I don't wish to sound contradictory in any way , Just add a different perspective on this whole issue of Peace for our times . We all so long for it , and even reading your article I was rudely bombarded with noise from the adverts . to the extent I had to put earplugs in , so as to continue in Peace . That is the world we live in . There are those who allow that for others , but sadly even on a good site like this it is not always the case. I have inner peace myself though as I acknowledge the presence of the Prince of Peace . He helps me to cope with the situations that would rob of outer peace . Plus I believe that those who pursue peace will be blessed in the doing .
I speak peace to you my friend . No doubt I will write more later . ( with ear plugs in :-) )
Bless you

Thank you Stella for your take despite outside interference. If one is not happy, how to spread happiness? Likewise, I see so much strife in the world and our leaders are putting out the fires, mostly, self-created. Also, when I see look at some of their friends, I feel they don't need enemies! When they rule while under continuous stress, can they really lead us to peace and harmony? Maybe, enough of theatrics and back to sanity! siva

A fine article. However, some believe a peaceful mind is not creative. They believe progress is not possible if every one has peace of mind and nothing to worry about. It is the restless mind which produces something new to define a new course of action or a new method or a new product-hence the progress. This is not to say your article is not fine but to present a different perspective.

Thanks GVR, your comments are always welcome. Peace of mind does not mean doing nothing. Restless mind to produce/invent is always welcome and does not create havoc in family or society. In fact, it benefits society. I work in finance area that is based more on greed than need. But I have always drawn a line - thus far and no more! I succeed in getting back to the zone of peace of mind whenever I have to venture out. Variety is the spice of life and I know some need adventure and risks to find their state of peace of mind. If our leaders do not find peace of mind, our world will be in eternal strife. Individually too, we should self-evaluate our limits so that we do not go overboard - siva

So true. I also believe that we tend to understand the finer aspects of living only as we age. We all go through the grind and realize late that the fight was not worth it and maybe there would have been a better way to live life. Jab jaago tab savera. Thank you so much Mr. Siva. Regards

Thank you Vartika. We can go through life living it up but always be aware of the reality. I have seen the super-rich leading lives afraid of even their shadows. But the enemy springs from closest family members while all the time they were avoiding those who just meant them well! Yes, we should wake up, earlier the better for a fulfilling life. I had written about Alexander the Great's last three wishes to highlight not a dime can be taken even by the richest. We all leave empty handed just like the way we came. Of course, what matters when we close our eyes here is the karma that is carried forward and hopefully an enriched soul - regards and best wishes - siva

Shalom to you Siva , which I am sure you are aware means Peace in body, soul and spirit .A beautiful word .I once saw a picture called Peace , which depicted a violent storm ,in which the trees were being blown almost to the point of falling , but as one looked there was a tiny nest on the branch and in it sat a little bird guarding her eggs.Outwardly everything was anything but peaceful , but nothing disturbed the intent of that tiny mother. We could all learn some lessons there I am sure. The name of the artist alludes me at this moment.
Have a peace filled day

Thank you Stella for this lovely word for peace. This I know but I had to check out for another - Dayenu - which David Reinstein used on another comment. That has relevance too to find peace of mind to be aware of our limitations. Mother's love is divine - let it stay that way forever. A child cannot reciprocate the genuine love showered by mother. I saw a video of a lioness protecting a baby deer for two weeks - touching mother's instinct from the queen of the jungle! Let us not stretch our luck too much so that we are sure of our footing - step by step every way, everyday - siva

Another word which I believe is so true Siva is where my Lord spoke and said 'Blessed are the Peacemakers , for they shall see God . ' I know from raw experience and observation , that those who sow in peace reap a harvest of peace , and if that be the case the same applies to hatred , greed and every other evil intent . What one plants will spring up sooner or later , for either good or evil as the case may be . As when a stone is thrown into a calm pool the ripples that come from it spread out . Too often people are throwing boulders into the mix , and causing a veritable tsunami ,with the destruction that ensues in its aftermath. We need more peacemakers in all walks of life , but in this dog eat dog world they are becoming few and far between.
May peace follow you and overtake you .

Thanks Stella. I feel the good takes things for granted and closes an eye. That emboldens the evil and the greedy to make a run with much more than they need little realizing that they are all the time watched by unseen and inside, our conscience which I call the spark of creation - our soul. No one has to tell what is right from wrong - the instinct is inborn and at most we can ignore it but have to pay a higher price the more we overlook the basics - siva

It is a wise man dear Siva who realizes that the good he does for others will always be rewarded, sooner or later , and peace is one of the gifts we can share . Those who know me say that they experience peace in my home . I have known terrible strife in my life , but I know which I prefer, and will endeavour to keep it that way . It is a choice , if we offer peace we reap peace , and it can defuse many an angry retort . Angry people are not easy to appease, but it says. The meek shall inherit the earth .Meekness often gets mistaken for weakness, but it really means ' Bridled strength ' People who can bridle their tongue , have greater strength , than the ones who let rip with hateful anger and violent intent , and it is harder to clear up the mess after a tornado than it is a happy party.
Better stop . or this will turn into a chronicle !!
Bless you Siva.

You are always welcome, Stella, to post your thoughts. They enrich my posts, if not my credibility. Sites like Wikinut keep one focused and out of harm's way. We can be as creative as we like and we have wonderful colleagues who give unstinting support even through criticism. But they all mean well. I work for a living but in a hurry to get to this familiar and friendly territory. Once words are out of our mouths, can we put them back? In a way the world has changed for the better, even a toddler does not take advice easily; so the old (wise?) have to bide their time which may never come. I do believe this life is only a fleeting moment in our eternal journey and those who have good intentions will be amply rewarded with more to do, not in terms of wealth that is all discarded here. We take another avatar and move on.I believe we all will meet at another place but may not realize that we shared much at Wikinut! There are many waiting for me impatiently for sure and will I be in for surprises? You bet! But I am yet to finish my karma here! siva

I pray you won't leave yet Siva . However to go back to the subject of the tongue I have just been reading where it speaks of the tongue as , though being a tiny member of the body , it makes great boasts , and is also a fire, which can, through a small spark ( or evil word ) set a whole forest on fire . That is so true , and it takes a huge amount of effort to bring it under control once the fire is raging . Sadly we hear of so many ' Fires' that have raged out of control through anger that is neither righteous nor beneficial to the good and well being of others . However I also believe there is a time and place for anger which defends those who cannot stand up or defend themselves , who are being abused or wrongly accused , but never to the point of being equally abusive in return . I have seen that too where the demonstrators who are standing against a just cause , actually become aggressive and abusive themselves. As the old adage says ' Two wrongs can never make a right ' Very true .
Bless you Siva .

Thanks again Stella for in depth comment. Like others, I have my own defensive mechanism against unjust accusations intended to provoke. These are from those who hardly know me. I react politely but make my stand clear. They leave me alone mostly. But a crowd is more emotional and few are adept at raising their temperatures to boiling point for their own selfish purposes. And make the majority pay and suffer. We have solution for every issue but few among us make them worse. Words prove more incendiary than any weapon to start wars within even loving families! So we need sane, cool minds, kind hearts and peace-makers everywhere. Destruction is easy but to build takes time; even a misunderstood word can bring the whole house down! Thanks again Stella - siva

I have to admit Siva that I avoid conflict like the plague, but when it comes to standing for truth and justice I can wave the banner with the best of them , so long as I have the correct information to work on . Sadly many spout great boasts or threats that , once spoken cannot be easily retrieved , and if there are a crowd of angry words flying around it can be dangerous indeed to stick around , as the odd bullet can find its mark even in the innocent bystander, as we have heard of so often .Wise words they are that tell us not to interfere in another person's argument,as before you know it,they may turn on you instead.Silence , at the appropriate time is indeed golden.
have a blessed day

Thanks Stella. I agree with what you say. Stand the ground when one is right - but that rule comes with exceptions too! Like the old saying - casting pearls before swine! I was few times stabbed from behind and once from front too - you too Brutus, I reacted! Frankly, there is no need to get angry and shout as the person who does so gets more hurt after the storm dies down. With friends I have no issues - we can take our time to cool down and not judge them when emotions run haywire! But occasional incidents do happen when for no reason they turn away but I try to keep a distance and hope such times do not last. Basically, I do not persist as we cannot change one's thinking when they do not want to! Commonsense, though not that common, will prevail eventually - siva
