This is a science fiction short story with very human components.

Anticipation flowed through Sasha as she dressed for work. It was a special day. Today she was getting promoted. It was something she’d worked hard for and deserved. Having been passed over many times because of her young age as well as her gender, she smiled widely that her dreams were finally coming true.

Sasha chose her clothes carefully. She wanted to look just right when everything finally came to fruition. It was important to look the part. After all, she would be third in command so to speak. It was a huge responsibility and one she didn’t take lightly.
Finally settling on a black wrap dress and simple black pumps, she accented her garment with a brooch given to her by her mother. Simplicity was the key. She looked in the mirror and found she was pleased with the overall effect. The brooch glimmered in the sunlight. It was just enough jewelry to punctuate her new station.

Running a brush through her long dark hair, Sasha pulled it high into a ponytail. A few swipes of mascara, a dab of blush and lip gloss finished the canvas. She looked flawless.

Grabbing her handbag and keys, she headed out the door, being careful to lock it behind her. One couldn’t be too careful in today’s troubled world. The thought made her grin a second time.

A short drive to the office gave Sasha time to practice her speech. She was stuck between using the word “honored” or “delighted” as she finally accepted her promotion. Perhaps she would use both.

Parking the car, Sasha raced to catch the garage elevator to the 12th floor. She greeted colleagues who were already in place when she arrived. They talked about the weather and what they’d done the night before. Sasha couldn’t help thinking how pedestrian it all seemed.

She took long, graceful strides as she glided down the long hallway to her office. She coolly greeted people along the way. Sasha was not known for her warmth. She was, however, known as smart, savvy and incredibly sexy. The men in the room couldn’t help but eye her as she walked by. She endured their lascivious glances as best she could. Soon enough they would know her power over them. A slightly evil gleam shone in Sasha’s dark eyes.

The day progressed slowly but meaningfully. Each passing hour brought Sasha closer to the anticipated moment. It was set for exactly 5:00 p.m., just as everyone was getting off work. The last minute announcement would be quite a surprise.

The minutes before 4:00 and 5:00 p.m. seemed to take forever. Sasha was about to lose patience. It was another of those virtues she simply did not possess. Truthfully, she saw little value in it despite the fact her one attempt at it had paid off for her. She was finally getting her heart’s desire.

The clock struck 4:58. Sasha moved into the outer office with purpose. She positioned herself in the center of the office, took a chair and, removing her high heels, stepped up on it. The snickers she heard in the background did not sway her.

“Excuse me. I have an announcement,” she said loudly. “May I please have your attention?”

“What’s up Sash? It’s quitting time,” a particularly irksome male colleague called out.
Sasha offered him a gaze that should have frozen him in place. It did give him pause but not for long.

“Get on with it, honey. I want to go home and watch the game,” he laughed.
Sasha reached into her pocket and removed a small device. Pointing it toward the rude male, she pushed the purple button, instantly disintegrating him. Then she pushed another button which sealed all exits from the room.

People froze in place for just a moment. It was enough time for Sasha to regain control.

“Move and you will be next,” she said coldly. “I said I have an announcement. Now shut up and listen.”

All eyes turned her direction. Shock held them in place.

“I am third commander of the fleet which is just now beginning to enter Earth’s atmosphere. The armada is 1,000 ships strong and capable of disintegrating this entire planet with a single blast of just one of our weapons. What that means for you is this. You and your quaint little planet now belong to us; lock, stock and barrel as you like to say.”

As she spoke a few men and women moved to the outskirts of the crowd surrounding them. They also pulled weapons.

“As you can see, my men have you covered,” Sasha smiled. “You aren’t going anywhere except to the slave ships once they are docked. Would anyone care to dispute me? I’ve been waiting a long time to put your arrogant species on notice.”

People began to cower. One man tried to make a run for it, getting all of three steps before he was disintegrated.

Sasha spoke in a foreign tongue and one by one her men began to emerge from their human skin. They were taller in stature than most humans so Sasha anticipated the obvious question.

“We have morphing capabilities as you can see. This, however, is how we really look.” With that, she too shed her human skin. What remained behind when she finished was a being of light and incredible beauty.

“Yes, I know,” she sighed. “You wonder how something so lovely could hold such a dark heart. Well, here is your answer. We don’t have a heart.” With that she began shooting randomly. “Are there any more unanswered questions?”

Heads nodded in the negative. A look of defeat settled on the faces of her captives. She’d won the battle. Now it was time to win the war. Touching her brooch, she spoke into it.

“Commander, we are set. All hail the New Empire.”

Looks a possibility Charlie. Stephen Hawking has been warning us that this can well happen - let us enjoy our time till when we become slaves or we mend our ways to become the boss! siva
