The Prospector

Prospectors in the Yukon live a harsh life in the cold. Many tales have been told about them.

The Prospector

He searched for that precious metal
That drove his kind insane.
He dug in the ground
For what could be found,
Till his body was wracked with pain.

He traveled across the Yukon,
Through all kinds of weather and blight.
He'd pan in a stream
For his illusive dream,
That glistened so yellow and bright.

He'd meet up with other prospectors,
But no one admitted their find,
Cause each man would kill
For a poke he could fill,
And leave this misery behind.

Each time he went for supplies,
He vowed that he had enough.
He'd cash in his poke,
And drink till he's broke
And head back to where living was rough.

A prospector's life in the lonesome,
Leaves no one to wonder his plight
He'll die in the wild,
Like a wayfaring child,
In search of that metal so bright.

We all prospect to some extent, but this kind of prospecting doesn't sound fun at all.

Many die along the way while very few enjoy their rewards. But that is what life is about, sigh! Thanks Don, for bringing out stark realites of harsh life - siva
