The Scent Of Lavender

If you have never walked in Lavender fields you will never know the heady perfume that fills the air .....but , like all memories .......

The Scent Of Days Gone By

There are some scents that once smelled, remain in the archives of the memory and can be recalled just by bringing to mind the flower from which the perfume comes ...

Lavender is one such flower ...

But , like all distant memories , with time , they lose the headiness of true experience , and remain just that ...

A distant memory ....

The scent of days gone by .....

Through Faded memories and Tears

The wells of man's true heart run deep -
With water clear - to only he who knows their torrent
That has been enclosed for years -
And does no longer ebb or flow -
Except through faded memories
And tears .

Hidden thorns

No one can know the heavy weight that
Stooping shoulders once have borne -
That leave behind the footprints of regret - and
Heartache - caused by selfish gain - where
Loves young bloom is blighted now - by
Unrequited love or shame - and
Hidden thorn

Like Lavender

Like lavender regaled in fields as row on row -
Its beauty fills the eyes - and raptures glow -
Encased in perfume - heady - 'til the senses reel -
And passions raid the mind - and drown the see-er
In its sensuous appeal - as if
Entombed .

With Heavier Step

Such is the longing for those yester-days - of musings
When the sun would drive the clouded days away -
With no respect - as time continues on - with
Heavier step and aching bones - reminders of
A coming age - when youth and sight and smell
Have faded - or have
Gone .

I Catch The Scent

Of these regrets - I care for none - nor
Choose to own them as my own - but
leave them in the deepest well - or shadowed
Tomb - where only memories can play - if
They so will - but now and then - I catch
The scent of lavender upon the air - and
Wonder briefly - as if still there - then smile -
Before that too is gone .

God bless you all

If you have ever been near lavender when the fields goes on and on ,dear Esther , it seems as if the air is lavender , which like pine or honeysuckle fill the senses . the scent in my poem is whatever memory is triggered . I used to like Chantilly Lace many years ago as a perfume , but they do not make it anymore , so Lavender has to suffice .
God bless you

Its the colour of my dress I wore for my citizenship ceremony with hints of silver and dazzle with crystals. I am at peace with love now!!! Used to use it in my son's bath to put him to sleep.

A beautiful poem my dear friend. Many times I have walked lavender fields and I always pick a bit and squeeze in in my fingers. I once bought some lavender aftershave, think I'll get some more.

Methinks you are teasing me Terry , dear friend . But if indeed true , I can imagine it would have attracted a lot more attention than that of a few bees , especially from your mates :-). I'd stick to something more' manly ' like Brut or the like . Can't have the bees bothering you , now can we ?
Blessings in abundance

Reading all such beautiful comments …I nearly dozed to think …what to ink… a perfume slapped my burning cheek… was it lavender. Stella… I think so ----what of a perfume you compose …such loveliest poetry...as much as I do prose... but it's the kindness of lavender I suppose...
