The Street Lamp

A poem I write tonight, inspired by a beautiful picture.

A Street Lamp

Down in the street, footsteps break the silence
Of the neighbourhood and of my little room,
The small, slow steps halt and a new fragrance
Invades my senses like flowers in bloom.

A shadow is leaning against the street lamp,
It’s a woman’s figure in the deep blue night,
All around is quiet, the autumn air is damp,
And there’s something strange in the air tonight!

From behind my curtains, I cast a furtive glance
Intrigued by her presence, an angel in disguise,
I want to move my feet, but I'm in a trance
And can’t keep my eyes off her lovely guise.

What’s she doing there, waiting all alone
Maybe for her lover, maybe just a stranger?
Or maybe she’s tired, I will never know
Whether she’s a hunter or a prey in danger.

Very atmospheric, Ella, and so visual through your description... Nice work indeed my friend..
