The Thirsty Sparrow

For me this is a time of year for reflection, a time for remembering and celebrating the year in its passing.

The Thirsty Sparrow

The Thirsty Sparrow

The brave little sparrow
who is
wishing to be a robin,
but still
somehow squeamish of the worm

bites his tongue
and drops his captive free
in the open faced wind.
Spring is old now,
he thinks
as he feels warmed sunshine
wearing through his wings,
he is so thirsty
and dry,
so he flies;

Feeling Brave

and the worm
the squirming dare devil
now feeling brave of himself
takes up arms against the apples
in the tree
who wait with only leaves
to defend themselves.

Slow Sticky Moves

While outside my window
summer creeps
in sluggish waves
across the green valley floor,
slow sticky moves,
like a sweetness on the fingers
of our young Baby Blue,
like something that hangs upon our lips
waiting for the right moment

A Sweetness Missed

to be loosed,
or to be licked away
at first chance,
a sweetness I will miss
now that autumn
has once again failed

in all her golden glory
watching as the tongue
of young
Jack Frost
begins his frosty bite
of winter white.

I have been writing since the beginning of time it seems, not because I want to write, but because I have too. My favorite form of writing is poetry, all kinds and types of poetry.

sluggish waves...slow sticky be licked away.

It's so good you used these words far apart, if not, I might have gotten a mouthful of that slug, or was that a worm?

Only kidding around Utah Jay.

This is another fine piece of poetry.

You always pick the right word slotted into the right place to paint in our minds the right picture that you have painted for us to view.

It seems the festivities and celebrations of this season has clouded the real purpose for many of us.
Thank you for sharing this.

Awe. We have plenty of Sparrows and Robins here in Pittsburgh. They think that my yard is their personal little buffet.
