The delicate art of relationships

Being in love never seemed so easy and difficult all at the same time! The oxymoron of love...

All you need is love

It really is true that someone comes along when you are least expecting it. I never expected to fall in love. But even more exciting is staying in love. Every day brings its challenges and moments of childlike happiness. Here's why I think this relationship is working amazingly well (and yes most of it sounds basic):

1. Communication is key. Talking about the small and the big things. The little niggles get nipped in the bud before they become monstrous challenges. And talking about the difficult issues - money, children, insecurities... Isn't a walk in the park but with patience, listening and understanding, discussing the issues bring us closer together

2. We agree to disagree sometimes. We won't always agree but at least we know where the other stands and we can find a middle ground

3. We have fun. Whether its writing, drawing, watching tv or going out, we make time in our schedules to be together and relax

4. It doesnt have to cost the earth - snuggling up in front of a DVD means as much as being taken out to an expensive dinner. Especially if he gets my favourite girly movie and is happy to watch it

5. He shows me he loves me every day through his consideration (and I hope I do the same). Like making me a cup of coffee or running me a bath. It means a whole lot more than the occasional expensive gift

6. We can both have our bad days and that's ok. We can be tired, grumpy or a bit down sometimes but it's not the end of the world and it's a good opportunity for plenty of hugs

7. We give each other space. I love being with him and vice versa, but sometimes he just wants to play PS3 and I want to see my friends for a girlie chat

8. We respect and support each other

9. I am learning to like football and he is watching X Factor. He's having debates with me and I'm listening to 'old style' music

10. We show and tell each other we love each other and appreciate each other every day.
