The Face of Deceit By Egbeigwe Maria Unoaku

Nkechinyere Egbuji born in 1988, is the first child of six children of Mr. and Mrs. Egbuji Joseph who hails from Mbano in Oru Local Government Area of Imo state, Nkechinyere finished her Primary School Education in the year 2000 but couldn’t further her education due to lack of fund to proceed beyond Primary School, Though Nkechinyere is not on the bright side educationally, but she is a very pretty good looking young lady.
Staying with her parent in the Village for some years after her Primary School without any tangible thing doing, she decided relocating to her cousin in Abuja with the hope of fending for herself and assisting the mother in training the younger ones after her to acquire some education, especially now that their father was late.
In Abuja she stayed with her cousin for a while working as sale girl, before securing an apartment for herself. After gaining experience from her place of work, she decided to start her own business. Being a pretty hard working lady, her business was doing very fine and sending money to her mother in the village.
Not long after she started her fashion design business at the age of 24, she became a victim of deceit because of her naivety. At that age, she was still a virgin but blindly unlike her, fell in love with a young educated man by name Chibuzor. She actually fell in love with Chibuzor because of his command of English and his general knowledge in every areas of life. This relationship resulted in pregnancy after some months; and because of her mother (High blood pressure) ill health problem she kept it to herself.
Nkechi,s mother was devastated when she heard about her daughters preg-nancy through the cousin, she therefore summon her to come home with her so call lover boy that pregnant her in order for him to pay her bride price and perform all necessary marriage rites demanded by their custom and tradition. This did not go down well with Chibuzor who has an ulterior motive; hence he postponed the whole arrangement till Nkechi most have put to bed.
When they finally travelled down with the newborn baby to see Nkechi’s mother, she was very glad to see her grandchild, but this happiness was short-lived when Chibuzor dropped the bombed shell that the union cannot be solemnized. He claimed that the two families are related,
Shortly afterward Chibuzor got married in Abuja, and he refused to take re-sponsibility of that child. This was very devastating to Nkechi, Chibuzor even told her to sell that child if she likes and warned her to stop calling his line. Nkechi now looks up to social welfare to help her address this issue of abandonment from Chibuzor. What a sad climax to such professed love from deceitful Chibozor who took advantage of Nkechi’s naivety. The lesson here is, “Always look before you leap”,
