The gem in my vault of memories

The poem is about the love-hate relationship I had with my grandfather.

My grumpy grandpa

My grandpa was a feisty dude;
Had insatiable hunger for fun and food.
I still remember his weird idiosyncrasies;
He is the most precious gem in my vault of memories.

Tagged along with him for every party;
He was for sure the king of repartee.
Took strolls with him down the street;
Pestered him for a sumptuous treat.

Engaged in fighting for a silly daily soap;
I purposely hid the batteries of the remote.
Stole cookies from his classified jars;
Swear words shot from his mouth like stars.

When he was bedridden for many years;
Seeing his cadaverous body brought me to tears.
As his soul embarked on a different journey;
I experienced a strange epiphany.

I got out of the closet of puerility;
And started wearing the cloak of maturity.
He taught me the lessons of life unknowingly;
And in every festivity I miss him dearly...

Lovely and heartfelt tribute, Shrishti. He has blessed you not only during his lifetime but also after he left this world - some do so provided we prove worthy of receiving their blessings - siva
