The method

A short poem about the methods we employ to keep the world at bay sometimes.

Any means, every means

There was no hunger, no need to sate
The food went in, did not feel great
Still there was feeding, a massage for the mind
To block out some sadness, to negate the grind
The pressure ever present, expectations abound
Relentless, unyielding, expression a frown

Escape for the moment, some frantic control
To drink it or snort it or pop it and flow
Forget responsibility, no judge in that second
The wild, rampant freedom, the devilish beckons

It simmers below, disguised by the facade
Of work, smiles and pleasantries, everyone plays
The mind tells a story, the definitive driver
That it will be better, always a survivor
Yet whispers from elsewhere distract and diminish
All possible joy, craving a dark finish

Fight on, try to ignore, do not just falter
The quiet voices will try their hardest to alter
So drown, or fog, or stuff to total distraction
The method is flawed, but is some sort of action.
